What to look for on a test drive on a 05 with 115k miles

Hey guys,

I also have a similar thread going, but I figured I'd make a new one with more specified questions. This weekend I did a quick test drive of a loaded 05 G35. They are asking 15k for it. The only catch is that it has 115k miles. I have never seen a 05 with that many miles on it before. But the price is certainly right and within my budget. My family has bought high mileage bargains before and always had good luck with those cars.

On the test drive the car drove like it had 50k miles. Everything looked to be in perfect order on the inside and outside. The transmission shifted perfect and smooth. The engine had great response and power. There were no pulls, no vibrations, no rattles or anything. The only things I noticed was that the navigation DVD is missing. Is there a torrent floating around with the DVD files? How much is it to buy one legitimately? The other thing I noticed was that the low pressure tire light was on. I didn't have a gage to check the pressures, so hopefully it is a low tire rather then the sensor...

I am probably going to go back there this weekend with the intention of purchasing it. What are the things should I specifically look for on a longer, more in-depth test drive? Are there any expensive repairs/maintenance that has to be addressed at the ~100k mark (timing belt etc...)? What are some common problems in the G35s that I need to look out for? What other advice do you guys have for me about this car?

Thanks for your help

Tom

weird that these 05 owners are selling off their dvds before selling the car lol.. mine didn't have one when i purchased my 05 either.. you can buy a new one at zenrin.com i think its about 150-180, it says on the website. You're probably going to have to buy a new set of tires and maybe brake pads, unless they replaced them recently so idk if you were thinking about tire and brake expenses

If you plan on keeping this car very long, do yourself a favor and have a reputable Mechanic check it out. Run a compression check, hook it up to a computer. Spend $150 and have it done right.

I am NOT afraid of high mileage cars especially if it's mostly highway miles.

Ya, look for less miles. I bought an 05 6MT sedan back in august with 17K miles on it for $21000. You can do much better.

All depends on how it was cared for.

It's true though, you can find one with a lot less miles..

My 2005 had 63K and it still hauls the mail.

My G is 12 months old with 51k, it has been maintained tothe nines. I say for the right price I would not be afraid of the car.My rational is simple, with that mileage in 2 years, someone had to drive the highway all day like I do. My last car went 300k all highway, some Mexican(I am not slanting this, the car was shipped to mexico) is driving that car and will probably get another 200k out of it. Usually it is pretty obvious if a car has been neglected, or not! I see a couple of people bought really low mile cars, I guess I would question, "GeeDM" an 04 w/15k, that is 300 miles a month, that is almost to low. Cars that sit become sicker than cars that are being used. I will not buy a car off a lot if it as sat for a prolonged period, that is when things get finiky, from rust corrosion etc. I say buy the deal that is right for you.

^+1... My parents have a 2-mile commute to work everyday and their 1997 Civic has barely 40K miles....

To the OP--like others have said, you can find an 04 with less than half the miles for the same price. I saw one on sale locally, 04 6mt Sedan with 60K miles for $14K...
