NEW here, purchasing a sedan very soon, opinions appreciated.

Hi guys,

This is my first post. I've done some reading here and tried to figure out which years, trannys are the best etc.

I'm down to two cars:

2003 G35 Sedan
50,000km (31,000 miles)
5/AT
Silver on Black leather with wood.
no sunroof, no navi
RWD
was $15,995CDN, price was just raised to $17,995 (??)

and

2004 G35 Sedan M6 Aero Sport
69,000km (41,000 miles)
6MT
Black on Black with aluminum
sunroof
RWD
$16,800

Since the second car is an '04 I'm guessing it would still have some decent warranty left, while the '03 may not since it's getting close to the cut off for the year portion of the warranty.

What do you guys think? Both are very clean.
I think that I'm avoiding the possible REV-UP oil issues by going with these years, I'm leaning towards the '04 since the '03 just increased it's price but looking forward to what you guys have to say since you own the cars. I've driven stick previously, the car I drove for about a month during the Christmas season was a VW Golf and I've heard that the VW car can be trickier due to a hydraulic clutch or something, so how easy is the G35 manual to drive on an everyday basis. Thanks for any input.

Josh

I'd say go for the '04, newer the better as they say here. As goes for MT I duno, I drive an AT Plus on the '04 you get aero and a sunroof~ and personally I hate the wood trim...

04 even though it has more miles. I say that because it's stick and it's the aero sport. Trust me, you won't regret going with the 04.

You would have to check to see when the 04 was originally sold to see if there is any of the 4 year basic warranty remains. My 04 went out of warranty last September (I bought it once the 04s came out). I still have the 6 year powertrain warranty, as well as my extended warranty.

The only issues I've had, other than nicks in the paint, is the drivers seat (fixed twice), and the front brakes needing pads at 30K.

I think you need to go based on shape of the cars, and whether you really prefer MT or AT. I wouldn't otherwise worry too much about the year.

04 6MT (this from an 03 5AT driver), mostly for the Sport pkg, but also roof.

Got pics of either/both? Where are you located?

Sounds like it's going to be the '04 then. I think that I'd really appreciate the roof as well and so I can do this since it's a 6MT. lol

The pics are on the trader, but don't anybody go buying that car now, I have to send my parents to go get it as it's in Ontario and that's where they live. Looking to ship it by train. Anybody know of any good shippers in Canada, my friend used J. Simons which I think is a broker for Hansen's.

I'm in Calgary, SwivelMan, the NW region up on U of C campus on 24th Ave, should be moving to Royal Oak in about a month though, still NW. Where are you?

Might be a good idea to ask this in the Regional area too, so you can get in touch w/ some more Canadians who know the area. Welcome aboard & congrats!

Just make sure the 04 is still under the powertrain warranty and/or consider buying an extended warranty because the 6MTs are far from reliable trannies. Syncro problems galore with those trannies. The clutches are pretty weak too and that's a non-warranty item.

Thanks for the heads up.
Is this just because people are generally hard on the 6MT or are they poorly built, IYO? I think I would like a stick but if it means reliability issues well then NO, I don't at all mind manumatic, except for BMW ridiculous inversion of the industry standard shift pattern of a manumatic. Test drove an '07 BMW 5 series last Feb and the shift pattern was inversed so I was always shifting the wrong way! vs, Porsche, VW, Audi, Infiniti etc.

Didn't know there was a regional forum, thanks for the info!

As for extended warranties, the '03 comes with a 4-year extended warranty, the '04 comes with a 2-year, both from third parties. IYO, are these third party warranties usually OK? Can I buy an extended warranty from Infiniti?
