trunk release button retrofit?

I just bought an 03 Coupe last week. The lone head scratcher for me was the lack of a trunk release button.

Has anyone installed a switch from the newer years or does this involve wires and other more complicated stuff?

Are you sure you don't have a trunk release button? Mine is to the lower left of my steering column.

Since this is in the sedan section, I'm not sure this applies to the coupe

03.0 sedans did not come with a trunk release switch/button on the interior. They did not become available till the 03.5 model. You should be able to buy the switch/button from your dealer (or PM Tony@riversideinfiniti)

I retro fitted my 03.0 sedan with one as well as an extra DC outlet.

Well now I don't know which button the OP was referring to, but I want a trunk release like the 05/06 have on their rear bumper. Btw, I have an 03.5 sedan.

OK, car is in shop today for various fixes, one of which is the trunk release switch.

Checked with a local Infiniti dealer, and this is supposed to be there.

In my 03, it is just not there!

(bought car from Carmax), and they are checking on getting a switch installed.

Pic later.

Nothing goes on or near the trunk itself. The switch/button I am referring to is actually next to the dimmer and vdc on/off switch, left bottom hand side of the driver. All you do is install the button and tap into the wires of the "on/off" toggle inside your glove box. Very simply.

I tried to find the place I ordered mine from but I can't seem to find the link now.

I can snap a pic of switch and where I tapped it if needed.

I would have thought the coupes came with this too since they came out in 03.5. Guess yours just got missed.

pic of the area where the switch should go.

Dealer is researching where to get the switch and make the fix:

found the switch from a local infiniti dealer:

Also just wrote Infiniti directly to ask if they can help me out. Didn't really want to pay anything when this should have been there.

If they won't pay for it and you want to give it a shot yourself, let me know. I can do a write up on how to install it. It's very simple.

There have been a number of times I wished I had the 05/06 button on the back of the car.

That would be sweet. Car is going back again to get the 02 sensor, and now I just found I need to get some TSB work done from Infiniti (fuel line replacement), so I am going to ask if they can put the switch in.

The switch was only $50, but I don't want to pay (it should have already been there

Does your trunk look like this:

If so, from what I understand, it does NOT have an interior trunk release switch. It's not until the 2003.5 that got them, which also have a trunk different than the one above.
