What are you paying?

Ok, here's sticker on the G35 I configured on Infiniti's site:
30,500.

Here's Edmunds and KBB's Invoice price:
27,675

What are people realistically paying now?

If you're making offers to the dealership, what are you offering? $500 over invoice? $1000? $1500?

BTW, I'm in WI, but frequently go to IL.

Thanks,

--Dave

Re: What are you paying?

I am assuming that this is an auto G. I would offer $500 over invoice. They are very common.

Re: What are you paying?

I hope this helps, but in May 2003 when there wasn't much room for haggling, I got a 6MT sedan with sunroof (1000.00 option) for 30,900, including trunkmat, floormats, dealer tinted windows.

I hope that helps some. For the same options on a 2004 I wouldn't pay more than 29,500.

take off the sunroof and I wouldn't pay more than 28500

I always offer 2% over invoice and usually do pretty good at it. but with the G I didn't care too much.

Re: What are you paying?

I had 1 dealer in Atlanta offer me 500 over invoice as his first offer. 2 others said they could beat that. Get the dealers bidding against eachother. Hopefully you are in a big market like Atlanta where you can use competition to your advantage.

Re: What are you paying?

Thanks for the feedback. 28.5 was what I was thinking, just a shade under $1k over invoice... or a hair over 2%. Sounds like it's do-able.

The one downside is I'm not in a large market. SE WI. There's only one dealer. I may have an in with a sales guy there, but we'll see. If he jags me, I'm out the door.

I do visit Chicago-area often, where there are *many* dealers. The downside there is that the sales tax is 2 points higher, so any potential savings gets devoured in tax.

I do appreciate the feedback. Now I need to do some final test drives to sort out what it is I'm going to lay my $$ on... the G35 6mt Sedan, the 325i or the Subaru Legacy GT (due in May).

Re: What are you paying?

I would skip the Legacy, I saw the new one at the MN car show. I read about the new design and they upgraded the interior but it still feels cheap inside.(I sat in the both the wagon and sedan) I like the exterior and the thought of a light, turbo, all-wheel sedan but I think they will ask too much for this car. I was looking forward to seeing this car and walked away disappointed.

Re: What are you paying?

Out of curiousity... what was cheap-feeling about it?

Re: What are you paying?

Interior materials mostly, I didn't like the overall "feel" of the layout. The doors in particular, when I shut the door the sound seemed to rattle. Overall everything seemed to have a cheap plastic feel to it. I'm not familar with the older Legacy so I don't know what they felt like, maybe the new model really is an upgrade. Personal taste I suppose, maybe I shouldn't tell you to skip it outright but I was looking for something a little more solid feeling. On the other hand, people complain about the G and say it has a cheap plastic feel to it too. I don't see it as cheap and I like the way it feels, you might feel the same about the Legacy.

Now we're talking. :-) That's a good price.

So how'd you pull that off??

Re: What are you paying?

There's a couple tips:
1)Go at the end of the month.. When they are trying to meet their quotas, they will be more likely to deal.
2)Don't tell them your maximum down up front.. I went with 6k ..but negotatiated at 4k, then worked my way up to 6k slowly.. works well

They gave me the Premium package for like $1400 (it lists for 3200 as it is the prem with spare)

Re: What are you paying?

I got my AT 04 sedan for 27.700. It is very plain with Sport being the only package. However can't beat getting G35 for less than 30k OUT the door.

Re: What are you paying?

Bought my car 03/03/04 in east Bay Area of northern Calif (many dealers) via the Internet. It's an Obsidian Black/Graphite Leather 2004 Sedan - 6 Speed MT (w/Sport Pkg standard), Premium Pkg, Navigation Pkg, Aero Pkg w/wing & splashguards. It had 24 miles on the odometer, and I paid $33,020 - which was $61 under their factory invoice (MSRP on window sticker was $36,220, FYI). Made my deal over the phone with the Internet Sales Manager (who is usually also the Fleet Sales Manager), showed up and closed the deal 60 minutes later, no hassles, all as agreed - It's 1,700 miles later now, and I'm lovin' it!

Hope this helps. - DB

Re: What are you paying?

So most of the cars you guys bought were in stock?

I think I'll probably have to order to get a base 6mt with no options (there are really no options I want...).

What about an offer under those circumstances? Still shoot for ~$800 over invoice on a car that would need to be ordered?

Thanks.
