My engine is pinging... is this a TSB or anything?

I thought I would ask here before calling the dealership and getting the run around.

For reference: 2005 G35 Sedan, sport, 6spd, 33k miles.

About 4-5 months ago I noticed my car would ping (fuel detonation) under moderate load and at low RPM's. Like being in 2nd gear, lugn' it around and then stepping into the throttle a little more.

It rarely does it when running it hard and under WOT. I've always used 93 Octane and always from one of the 3 major carriers here in Texas.

I've tried using Techron and OTC fuel system cleaners but nothing seems to work.

The only mod my car has is the Stillen exhaust but that's been on the car since 3k miles or so.

Thanks for any input on this.

I would take it to the dealer. I am not aware of any TSB or other issue that would cause that under normal circumstances.

Let us know what caused the issue if you get it fixed.

take it to the dealer. Be very agressive with them. Don't let them blame it on ur exhaust.

i think they could blame it on your exhaust...they could tell you it messed up the a/f ratio or something thats why its pinging. i know its not very likely but hey it might actually be your exhaust...

...and you'd be wrong. The exhaust has been on the car for the past 30k miles with zero issue and the ECU has no issues with making the appropriate changes for the exhaust.

Hard to describe. Think of a few marbles in a coffee can and what that might sound like if you rattle it. It can sometimes be very slight but can also be VERY loud and obvious.

Maybe someone else could explain it better?

im not saying that its the exhaust...i know A LOT about the g35 so im not a newb. im just saying some dealers could very easily get away with blaming it on the exhaust. im not saying they would get away with it, but why go through the headache??
