Finally got my G35

After driving my new G35 today, i've noticed a few things I didn't really notice in test driving.

1) Vibration that comes thru the shifter is a little worse then I first thought, the short test drive in stop and go traffic made it seem rather minor, but after driving long stretchs, you really notice it more

2) The driver controls on the right side of the seat kind of push into your right leg. I never notice this when I was test driving the G35, but now I've had more time in the drivers seat, I can fell the irritation. I'm hoping over the next several weeks the part of the seat that holds the controls will lossen some, so it doesnt push into my leg.

Other then those two things i've been having a lot of fun with this car. Driving home tonight this BMW 330 pulls up right next to me and trys to get me to race, but since I only have 27 miles on the car, I decided that wouldn't be to smart. I think he thought I was to chicken to race because he waved his hand at me and took off. In a few weeks after I break in the engine, maybe ill run into this guy again and i'll be the one waving

Re: Finally got my G35

Congrats on your new car!

The general consensus on the seat seems to be that if you muck with the controls a bit you can find a comfortable spot where it doesn't press into your leg. For me, raising the front of the seat up keeps the controls out of my thigh.

Re: Finally got my G35

Congrats Dan. I know it must have been hard when the 330i rolled up next to you. You're a smart guy break her in right and you will have a machine who will most willingly snarl at 330i s.

I have never had aproblem with the seat controls. Of course after you have had a car fro a while you notice certain things, but try to focus on the donut not the hole.

Sometimes when people talk about problems we become really sensitive to those things and we look for it. This may not be the case. Give it time all cars have certain things that are a little disturbing. I love my car and I am sure you will note that the good out weighs the few bad things that persist.

All the best, what color, pkgs, etc...

Hey dan,

I was really surprised by the ammount of vibration felt through the stick(im guessing you have a 6 speed) also. It is very reminiscent of the late 80's 300zx transmission. Nissan seems to have a rough way with their RWD MT's.

My 2 cents.

Re: Finally got my G35

As far as the controls on the seat goes, i've been able to push on it and bend it outward a bit so its not rubbing on my right leg anymore. As far as the vibration goes, one reason I probably notice it more then others who have the 6mt is that my previous car was a 2000 prelude and its manual transmission was really smooth. The vibration is nothing major and I can easily live with it.

I have no regrets buying this car, its an awesome car. It's hard not to open her up, but 1200 miles will come soon enough. Although I usally wait 3000 miles before really pushing it hard. That way I can change the oil and remove any metal shavings before pushing the engine hard.

Re: Finally got my G35

Hi,

My 6mt vibrates too, I don't worry about it. The seat controls get me too, I will try to do what you did. My seat has started to loosen up so I do not notice it that much anymore. I really like the car, what fun it is!

Re: Finally got my G35

Congratulations on your new car ! You're lucky to have a 6M. I bought this car, knowing that my wife will be driving it 90% of the time (I only get it on the weekend, since I take the train to work every day) so we had to go automatic (she doesn't drive manual). But, when I'll change my current car (Grand Prix GTP) I'm thinking for a G35 coupe with manual. We'll see.

I don't mind the power seat buttons, but I'm not that excited about the suspension, I think it's too rough (I know I'm older than the majority of you - 36 next week on March 7'th !). My GTP and a previous Acura TLS that I had, didn't feel that bad
(both front-wheel drive cars). I guess, I'm getting ... "softer" !

I believe the general consensus is to have the first oil change done at 1,200 miles (when the break-in period ends).

Enjoy your car !

P.S. What part of the country are you from ?

Re: Finally got my G35

Actually the dealership told me to bring it in for its first oil change at 5000 miles and then every 5000 miles after that, it even states that in the maintance book they give you with the car. Seems a little on the long side to me. But if Infiniti says thats when you need to bring it in, then I guess i'll go ahead with there recomendation.

Re: Finally got my G35

Dan,

Are you sure it reads 5,000 mile intervals for oil changes? I seem to remember 3,750 for severe and 7,500 for normal conditions.

My driving is 90% highway, with very few short trips, so I'm opting for 7,500 intervals...also using a synthetic oil, 36K miles a year.

But traian is right, most of the members here changed at 1200 miles. Do a search for oil change and you'll see all the reasons why.

Re: Finally got my G35

My Z dealer told me that my first oil change should be at 3750.

Re: Finally got my G35

I think it depends on where you live, I live in the desert (Palm Springs), The Maintenance Jornal from Infiniti they gave me says every 5000 miles.

I think i'll probably do what I have always done with all my cars. 1st Oil Change at 1200 miles then every 3000 after that.

Re: Finally got my G35

congrats on your g35 buddy. forget that moron with the 330. YOU, MY FRIEND...ARE THE OWNER OF A LEGEND IN THE ORIENT. THE SKYLINE. the g35 engine is capable of almost 400 hp when tuned and "juiced" properly...and in the coming months....when NISMO introduces performance products for the g35....know this...these are not just aftermarket products. they are the "missing parts" that were meant to be there in the first place. nissan v35 skyline owners in japan have been enjoying the g35 (or i should say v35)...to what its truly meant for a while now. and soon...we fello american g35 family members will as well. once all nismo products are placed in the g35...i mean all the products (not just intakes, exhausts)....not even those arrogant morons with m3's will keep up with us. lololol....skyline forever!

Re: Finally got my G35

I live in the bay arear and the book states 3750 on oil changes. I also just called my service advisor and he stated that there are no other oil change intervals for our engines. Its the same as the Z. Be careful if you change the oil at 5000 miles they may no honor your power train warr. Thats straight from Pleasanton Infiniti and Stevens Creek Nissan. They also stated not to be fooled by salespeople who don't really know the tech side of the products.
