350z suspension problems
350z suspension problems
Hi, i am having serious problems with my 04 350z suspension, and i wanted to see if anyone could help.
-Thursday i put it on my car. Then I went out on a little test drive, and the car rode good, but had a little bit of bounce at the higher speeds and a little bit of jerking from side to side at 60+.
-Friday, was the same way, i tested the car out a little more, and saw that the diffrence was night and day from the stock sport suspension, but still w/ a little more bounce. And i also noticed that my steering wheel was a little off, like it had to be turned to the left a little to be going straight. I thought i need a front end alingement.
-Saturday (today), i drove around on it some more, and it rode good, but still had a little more bounce and the steering wheel needed to be turned a little more to be going straight. Then on my way back from dinner, i accelerated from a stoplight and all of a sudden the slip light and vdc light come on and stayed on, even-though i never turned off the vdc. So i tried hitting the vdc button, and it did nothing. Then i restarted the car, and everything was fine, for now.
Then on my way home i was on a backroad getting ready to go around a curve (i was making the speed limit) and then all of the sudden the backend starts slidding and jerking from side to side and bouncing real badand the car seemed out of control, and then slip light and vdc button came on and stayed on again. This scared the sh*t outa me, i thought i was going to die.
So i pulled over, to check and make shure nothing was visibly wrong. Everything looked fine, but i noticed the more the suspension settels the camber gets more and more off and i believe there is some toe-in in the rear. And the car would ocassionaly turn a little on its own while driving.
Then i just drove the rest of the way home scared to death that this car was going to jerk it's self off the road, and it tried again, but i counter steered it.
Have anyone ever heard of this happening to a car, or anything like it. I am really scared to drive my car at the moment, beacuse i dont know whats wrong, and the steering wheel is way off.
I may need a front end alignement, but i dont think that would cause the car to jerk from side to side so much and feel like you do not have the car under control.. If anyone knows anything that can help, please tell me or point me in the direction of someone who could help.
thanks,
brian

Re: 350z suspension problems
I wonder if everything was installed correctly. Can you please post if you figure it out. I'm about to swap out my suspension as well and your story is pretty disturbing.
Good luck

Re: 350z suspension problems
I got it fixed. The left rear camber adjustment nut was loose, and both of the washers w/ the circles on them were in different directions.
The car rides great now, little to no body roll, mucher firmer feel, and a much more connected to the road feel and the car has a much better stance. The car feels like it is on rails around curves, and there is no bounce at all. I give this mod a 10/10.
btw, Thanks Gsedan35 for all the help.

Re: 350z suspension problems
Sorry you had the initial trouble's, but I'm sure glad what I thought could be the problem was the problem and your all set now. Do drive on the setup for a couple weeks and come back and give a review, especially since you seem to have the revised 04 350Z setup. Take some off the beaten path roads that aren't as nice as the main city roads.

Glad to hear you got it worked out. So this is definitely the "new" 04 setup that you have?

Re: 350z suspension problems
Where did you buy the suspension? How much are they getting for the 04 suspension now?

Re: 350z suspension problems
Dang, I felt guilty about getting my 03 Z suspension for $150 shipped. $100 is great price, but some on those guys selling parts act as if they can get pretty high prices.

Re: 350z suspension problems
SkyLine,
I'm thinking about the '04 Z suspension too, but keep reading how you can't correct the suspension geometry for the drop. Did you happen to measure the drop front & back when you installed the Z suspension? I've seen 1" in front, 1.something" in rear; it would be nice if you could confirm this info yet again.
Thanks,
DEJim

Re: 350z suspension problems
Congrats on fixing that problem. Seems like the Z suspension is a real, nice cheap way of getting better handling. In the future I plan on getting some Z springs for cheap hopefully, and then combining them with the new Konis or Tokicos. I would like to have some adjustability for the dampers since I go autox and occasional road race days.

Re: 350z suspension problems
My plan precisely. I have the 350z springs on the way right now. Waiting on any word about the Tokicos or Koni's. Anyone?

Re: 350z suspension problems
Koni's are arriving now to people that preordered from 350evo.com. I just called Tokico and the current ETA for their D-spec shock is late July. I'm waiting for the Tokico's myself.

Re: 350z suspension problems
I just got mine on two days ago and love it as well, just like my old Z, I have an early 04 suspension but the bounce is much less pronounced as my Z. A great mod for anyone looking to bring out the "sport" in sport sedan.
