Sedan Side Moldings

Ive searched and searched on a thread that dealt with removing the side moldings off a sedan pref. an 03sedan but no luck. Has anyone done this? I was told a while back that it cannot be done without minor body work because the SEDAN side moldings are riveted into the door? I know there are a few coupes that take them off easy with some simple dental floss and some goo gone....but I want to know if its that easy with an 03 sedan?

you've heard right. the coupe side moldings are attached by double side tape while the sedan side moldings are attached with double sided tape and clips. If you remove them, there will be holes on your door. you wont achieve the look unless you have those holes filled in and repainted

+1...to be done properly they have to be welded and filled...otherwise you'll end up with wavy doors and eventually the paint will crack where the holes were.

has anyone painted their existing moldings?... They are never the same color as the car (aside from black)... I never really minded because mine is quite a bit darker and with the dark side skirts it kinda flowed - but I had the side skirts body matched and now the molding really sticks out in an odd way... I'm considering having them painted same as sides...

Thoughts?... waste of time? Good idea?...

If I was going to put any time and effort into them I would just do it all and have them removed.

quite pricey though - painting the entire doors... then have to worry about color matching... I've thought about having holes filled and painted, but not anytime soon (as of now anyway)...

Tim, you have black so its not noticeable... every other color is definitely noticeable... mine is real noticeable now... I either need to learn to ignore it or paint them. I'll probably end up biting the bullet and removing

I just clicked your sig link... its not as noticeable as some (but in many pics it looks a bit different)... I'd say black is least noticeable, white very minor... DP, DG, BS, and whatever the blue is called are all quite noticeable... the Maroon color is too (but that’s a rare color)...

^Now I agree with you on ever point

I'm going to remove the moldings sometime this year...at least thats the plan. Not because of the color but just to clean up the lines that much more.

Really does suck about the holes underneath. 4 of them to be exact...2 on each door

Yep....I think it was like $2500 if I remember correctly. Remove moldings, fill holes, paint doors and partially paint the front and rear fenders/quarter panel (so it all blends).

Not cheap but a must IMO
