painted lowers?

called a body shop that does my dealer's work and asked him about painting the lowers.

he said the lower parts need to be baked prior to primer/painting to remove the oils, otherwise paint won't stick. is this true? makes sense to me, but what do i know.

estimate was $500.

Re: painted lowers?

I wasn't told about the baking but $500 is a good est. I got told the paint will chip and it would be overa $1000 est.

Re: painted lowers?

i'm in SoCal, the body shop is in Duarte. i thought the price was decent, just wasn't sure about the baking story. But like i said, i thought it made sense to me.

just wondering if there are any painting experts out there.

when i was considering an A4, they talked about painted lowers and most of these were priced around $300-500. didn't hear about the baking thing though.

i figured t'd try this guy since he deals with my dealer and i wouldn't have to worry about the paint matching.

I am in Charlotte, NC and that was about the same quote I got from my bodyshop. But he did say that there is a certian kind of paint to use and it does need to be baked on

Re: painted lowers?

I got an estimate from the body shop that does work for the Infinit dealer her in Kirkland, WA and it was $1300...yes $1300. He didn't mention anything about baking, but he did sugguest not doing it because the paint would chip. Now once he gave me the quote, I really didn't need the recommendation for not doing it, the price alone was all the deterent I needed.

Re: painted lowers?

i hear ya, $1300 isn't worth it, but $500 might be. that Impul kit is too expensive for me right now at $3500+...
