Re: taking off shifting circle

Speaking of removing the circle. I had an idea the other day to take the circle off and replace with a shifter boot. What do you guys think? Anyone done this?

Re: taking off shifting circle

This has been done. There is a thread on this some time ago.
It looks really good. Our 5AT shifter looks like a MT shifter.
Way cool.

Re: taking off shifting circle

I actualy just got done taking mine off to add some AV equipment. What you need to do is: First, take off the gear shift ****. Insert a flat head screw driver in the space in the lower part of the shift **** and sepreate. Be carefull NOT to loose the little metal clip that is in there as I did! Then, near the back part of the console (if you have heated seats, it is behind them but before the arm reset) grab the sides of the console and pull out to disengage the clips. Once that is off, carefully lift from the back on an angle as the front 'lip' of this piece sits below the radio housing. Then, disconnect the wires for the various parts. And your done!! One thing though, be VERY carefull. The shif housing has to 'pole' looking plastic pieces that can break real easily. These 2 pieces drop into two small holes so the round piece does not move around. I do appologize for not having pictures of this. I just got done installing TV's, DVD palyer and the like. I will post pictures in a week.
