hmm ive never seen that sub before. yeah i was kinda wondering about the depth of the sub, because some subs have bigger magnets. i really wanted a sub like the JL w7 8". a friend of mine had one in his car and it sounded good for a 8", the bass was still knocking and hitting hard but still sounded smooth in lower frequencies. i dont really want to get a box for a sub or else i'd get something like 12's or 15's i wanted to keep it stock looking. has anybody upgraded the bose sub?

Are you guys going to run a separate amp for the sub? I have been wanting to do something similar for a while as well. The "premium Bose system" is not all that premium IMO. How many watts are designated to the sub w/ the stock amp?

i dont know, i kinda wanted to keep it single amp if possible. maybe a 5 channel alpine or something. i think i remember reading that the stock bose amp is only 200 something watts. so that is very little to make a subwoofer knock like i want it to. the only thing wrong with a 5 channel amp i seen is it will give u 4 channels at 70 watts and a channel for sub at 300 watts. but maybe 300 watts to a sub isnt enough to make the single 8" sub knock like i want it to? where are the car audio guys at?

Try the audio section, you might have more replies to this.

oh i had a sub powered by a 150 watt amp and it sounded great actually! so im sure the 200w powering the stock amp will do the job if you bridge it

i havent looked, but if the stock 8 just hangs, you would have to replace it with a freeair sub. if not it'd be easy.

FWIW, my friend runs the stock speakers off of a aftermarket HU, and they sound ALOT better... but i'm planning to run b/a interior, MB quart 12's and a eclipse H/U, powered by kenwood 4 channel for the interior and a kenwood 2 channel for the 12s

That's exactly what I'm looking for because it can be used as a free air sub or in an enclosed box.

if you had an enclosure built or if you wanted to get a free air... but there arent many free airs to choose from... if i was you guys, i would run a couple 12s or maybe a single 15 if you are concerned with trunk space. FWIW, you could pick up a really good sub and amp for 200, 250 at the most. budget **** for like 150.

money is not a problem when it comes to audio. i am an audio engineer so crappy sound quality is like kryptonite to me. if i was to get a box i would get something like a 12", 13", or 15" sub. but i would like to just replace my existing bose speakers + sub.

i was thinking alpine spx-17pro 6.5" in the front. JL 6w3v3 6.5" in the rear doors. and a JL 8W7 in the trunk deck where the stock bose sub is. i went to 2 car audio places and they wernt that much help. i know there has got to be a car audio guy here! by the looks of the space and depths for the speakers to fit, i think there would have to be custom mods to make it work.

well if you havent done yours by the time i do mine, i'll let you know... i doubt anything more than spacers are necc. for the doors... not sure what other mods you think would be necc... keep in mind for the HU the adapter isn't cheap... stupid thing ran me 100 bux, and that was USED!
