Angry Check Disk

My CD changer stopped working. I turn the car on and it will read CD1-1 and then nothing will happen. About 15 seconds later it will switch to CD 2 and nothing will happen, then 15 seconds again it switches...so on and so forth all the way until CD 6. Then it just says CHECK DISK and I can't even switch CDs or anything. I tried it with burnt CDs as well as production CDs and nothing works. I know the CDs work, too. The CD player itself worked fine this morning then all of the sudden stopped.

Any suggestions or experience with this? I don't want to take it to the dealership because they will charge $60 just to look at it.

Thanks!

Your CD player is toast most likely. I just had this problem 2-3 weeks ago with my 06 coupe. Tried to clean the laser, use non-burned CD's, and everything else I could think of to resolve the issue. Nothing worked. Took it to the dealership and they replaced it free of charge. My friend who has 07 G sedan also encountered this problem last week. Same outcome. Dealer had to replace his player as well.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know how much is left on my 4 yr/60,000 warranty. I am under 60k miles, but I have an 04 and it is now 08 so I don't know if I have any more months left on it. I don't have an Infiniti dealer in town but I called Nissan and he said he wasn't allowed to preform Infiniti warranty work so I have to take it to the Infiniti dealer about 2 hours away.

I'm honestly not sure how long electronic components like the CD player are covered under warranty, but I'm sure they'll confirm for you if you give them a call. Sucks your nearest Inifiniti dealer is 2 hours away! Good luck with the repair. Hopefully it won't cost you anything, but 2 hours each way in gas is no cheap bill these days!

By the way, my friend's infiniti dealer said the malfunction was caused by burnt CD's, which I was also using in my CD player when it freaked out, but who doesn't use burnt CD's these days? Looks like a manufacturing flaw with the reader.

Man that sucks about the burnt CDs. I gotta call them and see what they say about it. Hopefully its under, otherwise I might just get an 80 gig iPod since that will probably be about the same price as replacing it, if not less. Thanks for all the help.

UPDATE: Called Infiniti and gave them my VIN# and they told me that it was still covered under warranty. They went ahead and ordered a new one and should be in next week. Thanks 'Nasty' for your help.

^That sucks man...this is definitely the thread where CD players go to die. Good luck on getting it replaced for free. Seems like there's a pretty good chance since I haven't met anyone who had to pay yet.
