Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Well, I finally did it...I was lying in bed last night realizing how nice it's been in New England for much of the last few weeks...in the 50-60 F range...no humidity...but with my Mustang getting painted I forgot to even check with NE Dragway and see when they opened...so I got up this morning...checked the website and saw they were open...then I checked the weather...55-60 inland and 50s near the coast...then the furry began..
I flew outside and disconnected the battery for the ECU Reset...I was just hoping 7 hrs would be enough [it was :-)], and then I decided to take the plenum cover off for maximum heat disipation...then I gutted the car inside and in the trunk...and last but not least...my secret weapon...I left on my Winter Tires and Rims b/c I had a theory.
I felt that while the stock tires for a 6mt were too narrow to launch...for the 5ATs, they were too tall (17" rims) and along with the %$*&#@ VDC that NEVER truly turns off...my car bogged like a SOB off the line. Well, it worked...I ran in the same temps as last fall when I ran 14.8, 14.8, 14.7, 14.6 and 14.7...but had my 215/60 16 Bridgetone Blizzaks (V - Rated) on Fox 5 Sport Rims...and I ripped off three 14.3s with a 14.2 in there as well...three runs were well into the 96 mph range and the last one was a high 95. My goal, as a lot of you knew, was to beat my wife's damn Maxima, and I called her right after the first run to say how I was back on top with the fastest family sedan...she lol...anyway...so up to my title (Sorry for all the excited blabbering) what is the fastest G35 Auto out there...stock...all I have is the Grounding Kit and a CAI...nothing else. 15K on the odometer...and I launced everytime at a hair above idle...two hands on the wheel...and in manumatic 4 so as to lock out overdrive.
My best kill of the nigt as an 04 Neon SRT 4 Turbo...he ran a 14.1 @ 100, but I cut a 585 light and killed him by 3 car lenghts...he couldn't catch me even after we both kept it hammered well after the 1/4 mi (I knew it was my last race of the night so I was a little careless...he he...but I was psyched).

WOW those are good times, I need to run my car soon.... I didnt quite get how you got those times though, could you explain better? You mean with 19's that are much lighter than stock 17's I wont be doing quicker 1/4 miles? iLLG

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
iLLG35,
The problem with the larger rims is that even though they may be lighter than stock, their weight is farther from the hub, causing more inertial resistance and end up sucking up horsepower to turn them. The opposite is also the case when trying to stop the vehicle. The stock brakes will not be able to stop the car as quickly because the inertial momentum of the 19" rims is greater and requires more force (turned into heat by the brakes) to stop.
I'm sure that 14" or 15" tires would provide even better times. Not to mention that the taller sidewall height would allow some flex, minimizing wheel spin.
The 18's and 19's are nice for handling, but, as you can see, have their downsides beyond ride.
Hope this helps.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
I just got back from LACR and the 1/4 mile there. I got in 8 runs using a variety of launch techniques. Anyways, here are the corrected times.
I drive a 2003.5 Sedan, Auto, Sport, have a Z-tube, K&N panel filter, opened up the airbox, and have a 7-wire grounding kit. I run with my stock Goodyear GS-D tires.
1st run: 14.87@93.98MPH 60' time 2.2397
2nd run: 15.032@93.71MPH
3rd run: 14.951@95.02MPH 60' time 2.279
This 4th run was against Randy AKA "Randys_G". He was driving a 6MT Coupe with the K&N short ram.
My times are first
14.79@95.58MPH R/T .837
Randy14.64@95.13MPH R/T.939
My 60' time was 2.283 No 60' times on his lane
All and all it was pretty close, he pulled out right at the end and beat me.
My best time was against an SRT-4 Neon thingie.
I ran a 14.68@95.64MPH and 2.21 60' time to his
14.43@97.28MPH
My best R/T was a .626.
Had a blast, and we need to do this again on a Wednesday night.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
i only had time to do one run with my car and i ran a 14.65@95.77. that was with Ztube/stillen and a very messed up stock exhaust iwth a 22" resenator that was actually making less power then 100% stock exhaust. now that i got my true dual exhaust on, im going to run at the track again soon. i think i can do a sub 14.6

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
stsurbrook explained it perfectly...I actually wished I had 15" rims around. His explanation is exactly why I lol at all the guys with 18-20" rims...unless of course those people love just the looks...b/c they make starting and stopping a lot harder on the engine and brakes...and by that I mean harder as in longer to get going and longer to stop...it's not like they are doing any real damage any where.
As for how I run at the track...all my secrets...lol..
1. If you can plan it right (which I didn't this time and it may have meant a 14.1 if I did) run up to the track with 1/4 tank of gas or less. I had almost 3/4 last night.
2. Gut the entire Car except for the glove box and the arm rest console.
3. Front Tires PSI Max for whatever tire you are running.
4. Rear only go down to 35 PSI b/c the $#&%@ TCS will kick in anyway and you want a little spin to rev up the engine and get the hell out of the gates. (Auto only)
5. Keep Heat on Hight and windows down (no matter how cold it is) the whole way to the track to keep the engine as cool as possible.
6. Clear your head when you get there.
7. Hood up the entire time to keep the plenum and CAI cool.
8. Every time you start the car the first thing you need to do is take the TCS off and put the car into manumatic 4 and then it's two hands on the wheel.
9. Window down, heat on while waiting to stage.
10. As you are nearing your turn switch to left foot brake and right foot gas to get accustomed to the feel so you can stage calmly (staying relaxed is the key).
11. As you stage there are two ways to do it...shallow and deap (yes I have noticed a lot of this post could be a Penthouse Forum letter....lol). Shallow is where you barely trip the second staging light. I like this way with the G35 b/c it allows me to hammer it on the second light and cut a 5-600th light without redlighting and it gives you that hair of momentum when you actually trip the sensors to inititate the run. Your MPH will be higher, but your times lower normally, but the way the G35 launches I think this is the best way. Then there is a deap stage where you are on the verge of over shooting the second stage light, but the second you go, you are already making progress...again, normally this nets a hair faster time, but a MPH or two less, but in the G's case...I don't think so.
12. Last...no radio or heat on when you get to the staging lane...two hands on the wheel in your 5AT always...and like a free throw, block out everything else and focus on the rim, or in this case, that light tree...and depending on how you stage, hammer it on the 2nd light, or as the 2nd light goes out and the 3rd one comes on...I killed everything out of the hole last night just doing this. :-)
Good luck.
Everyone else...PLEASE POST YOUR FASTEST TIMES...FOR THE AUTOS OK, THANKS

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
WOW I never knew in 5 minutes I could learn so much.. Thanks stsurbrook and bosssho for the examples and explanations. I read somewhere that people run on small rims but never really got why and everything but that expalins it.. Finding this out makes me mad because I got 19's but wanted to track my car lol, but not every week just a few times so maybe it wouldnt be worth it. I could probably get a set of 15's was it you said? And what size tires were on your rims? I might get a set of small rims and tires 15's I guess and track it a few times over the summer. Also my stopping and braking power isnt going to be good anymore? Thanks for the info. Martin

No, but do take out all the head rests, front and back except yours...the floor mats...and the 10000 things in the trunk...including the jack lodged in the side pocket on the left.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Six is correct...16'' rims are the smallest that I know of...I should have said (earlier) that I wished I had 15" rims lying around and that they would actually fit, but anyway, a set of 16" aluminum rims from tire rack or wherever and I ran Bridgestone Blizzak 215/60 16 H Winter Tires if you can believe it. lol
The softer sidewall...H is only good to 130 MPH allows for more crinkle, like a slick does, which helps with the launch too...as opposed to the V and Z rated tires with stiffer sidewalls. The Same goes for the 60 Aspect Ration as opposed to a 40, 45, 50 or 55. Hope this helps.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Hmm, interesting.. Yes I was wondering about the snow tires haha, a 14.3-2 on SNOW TIRES !?!?!?! Wow thats crazy.. So which rims should I be looking at in 16's? Anything in particular, and also what tires and sizes shoudl I get? Thanks a lot, Martin Also I am having trouble deciding which tires to get for my 19's, Im probably gettint he toyo t1s's but which size to run I have no idea. I wanted to go 255/35-19 all around but then fender rub in the front is a concern on the sedan. Should I go 245/35 front and 255 rear? I dont need to be staggered also right? Thanks again..

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Nope, 35 PSI for the rears...anything more or less and the tires either spin too much or bog too much...at least for my car with my tires...you need to experiment with your own setup, but with the evil TCS behind the scenes always lurking...you can't afford to do either...b/c the TCS will cause the bog if you spin and or the tires will cause the bog if you have em too soft...you want just a mini slip to get going when you hammer it on the line, and then the higher the PSI in any of the 4 tires, the less rolling resistance, IE, the better your times will be the higher the PSI you can get away with. My Blizzaks only allow for 40 PSI max so that's what I had them at, but some times allow for 44 PSI, etc.
