Question 03 5AT Top Speed

I have looked through the sticky's and can't find any information about the top speed of the 03 5AT... I assume it is electronically limited and do not wish to 'try it out' just for my own knowledge...

I have been over 100mph on only 3 occasions, once to 104 with my wife riding along, once to 111 with my brother in law and once to 116, alone... the G is still pulling hard at 116 with all the windows down, so I'm wondering when it will top out?

Our old 04 X saw a smidge over 150

My 05 has seen 130 and could keep going.

Depends, whats to fast for you?

i've hit about 148 or 149 several times in my coupe before it was F/I. another member on here has hit just north of 150 numerous times, too.

honestly, it's not about what is 'too fast for me' and ENTIRELY about 'what is too fast to get caught doing'...

so its NOT electronically limited? just a matter of wind resistance and mechanical drag and the torque to overcome it...?

Its electronically limited in the 150mph-160mph range.

I'v heard the 07Xs stop at like 130 but ours kept pulling after that to.

Whats gayer than sex with children, is our pickup truck and how it slams you back at 98mph while your trying to pass somone...

The car is electronically limited to 156 mph. In stock condition the G35 can get to 160mph due to its sleek aerodynamics. I know 6mts are below 5900rpm at 150mph in 6th gear. Peak power comes at 6200rpm and that extra 300rpm is enough for the car to reach 160mph with the right weather conditions.

Thanks for the info! and i guess 5 open windows isn't part of 'right weather conditions'... not that i'll be going for 156 anytime soon... maybe one day when i can get to a track for a day

anything over 110 mph open windows are not a good idea in general.

If your G hits 156 on a track i will be surprised. Takes waaay to long and i dont think that any track is long enough for that.

I would be very surprised if a stock or mostly stock 1st gen G35 could hit 150mph+. The car is no doubt slippery and is well geared, but achieving 155-160mph is a bit of a stretch. The car doesn't have a whole lot of power. 150mph is believable, but 155mph-160mph is pushing it because you're talking about a lot more power or a good tail wind and grade.

I've had it to 125 and the car felt super smooth and had plenty more.... but alas, even desert roads have curves, and you have to plan ahead at 125!

If El Mirage didn't have such bad roads getting in we could have some fun.

2 years ago before all my mods, I hit over 152 with in 6th gear before approaching 6k on the tach. It was a sunny day over 4000 desert elevation with 160lb person right next to me. It was still going but my nervs weren't. that was my first time ever going that fast and after the lines were becoming one i slowed down. Back then i only had my exhaust and z-tube, if u wanna call them mods. I have no doubts that bone stock G can hit over 155 mph in right conditions meaning low DA if there was no limiter on it.

Right now my limiter is set to 190. LOL not that i can get there.
