I Haven't pried off the little cap yet to see how that tool fits. It's possible it could be made into a combination tool, but my guess is that if ground down to fit the slot in the plastic cover, it would bend or break.
It's no biggie really having to have a small screwdriver in with our toolkits. It's something most of us carry around anyway.

Re: A warning to all current and future G35 owners

Guys,

I just bought a G35 Sedan 5 days ago and since have experienced the brake switch failure. The strange thing is that it didn't lock up my gear shift, but it did cause the ABS, SLIP, and VCD Off Lights to come on. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as being a faulty brake switch and even mentioned that some of the time it will cause the shifter to stick as well. Additionally, 2 days before this occurred we had a major storm and I walked out the next day to find all 4 windows rolled down and the trunk popped. I have no clue on this one. The service department speculated that the people who applied the tint caused this to happen by getting water into the electronics, but who really knows? Anyhow, I hope this means I've gotten all the bad things out of the way early as I really would like to be able to enjoy this beautiful vehicle.

Anyhow, just my two cents.

Congrats, Rasta51. Hey, maybe your "G" got scared and lonely in the storm and just wanted you to pay some attention to her.
Did the inside get wet?

I haven't had the brake switch problem, but regarding the trunk opening & windows down -- when I was parked in a busy shopping center lot, an Altima was parked nearby. I clicked my keyfob to unlock my car, and the Altima's lights blinked (as well as mine). It seems possible someone else with a Nissan/Infiniti product my have inadvertently unlocked your vehicle. I'm certainly going to ask my dealer about this experience -- seems to me we shouldn't be able to unlock someone else's car (I certainly don't want someone else unlocking mine!). Love the car otherwise!

Thankfully I shift my own gears and don't have to worry about such annoyances. Unfortunately, the manual still has a safety switch that won't let the car start unless the clutch is depressed (even when in Nuetral).

Just remember an old biker's adage:

"If it has **** or wheels, sooner or later you'll have problems."

Let's hope it's later in the G. ;^)

Soaked... They floor mats oozed water when I touched them. As a thumbs up for Grubbs Infiniti though, they took the car in and fully detailed/treated the leather and so far everything seems good as new.

Not even... If I wanted to shift I would have bought the coupe. This car is for business and a little pleasure, not the opposite.

I'm in sales of aircraft interiors and I own a 6 speed sedan. My clients truly appreciate the 6 speed. Plus I get to enjoy shifinting for myself. And with the VDC OFF it is the true sleeper of the G35 family.

Re: A warning to all current and future G35 owners

Well.....I had the SAME ISSUE

A pair of maui jim sunglasses with the fake "wood" plastic ear pieces is a PERFECT FIT.

I figured it out and drove the car like that for about a week. It is nice to have abs and vdc completely disabled without even hitting a F$%king button. Let us say I had some fun that week.

I think that is a minor issue (especially since I had the release "tool"...hehe How do you think I feel with all the little issues that are in my 2003. I bought one of the cars off the first shipment to my local Infiniti dealer (I lived in the Midwest at the time and they get cars last).

Re: A warning to all current and future G35 owners

I am sure someone must have mentioned it already but there is a recall on the brake switch. If your car was made during certain dates your or VIN# you need to go to the dealer and they will fix the brake switch. Just go to your dealer asap to get this done for free.
I got it done on mine takes about 30mins

Re: A warning to all current and future G35 owners

The brake switch problem and resolution was a big topic on this forum about a year ago. Information on the brake sensor (switch) recall can be found in the TSB - Technical Bulletins section of this forum, G35Driver.

The recall notice doesn't describe all the symptoms .

gknesek- Glad you have your car fixed. Thank god. However, to me, it's not that big of a deal if you own a Mercedes (in my case, an E320, the synonym for shop queen, the crap automobile of the universe, and many others).
