Or is that normalish? Doesn't sound like a Tensioner rattle. It's more of a thunk when you 1st turn the motor over and it's moving on it's mounts. Is a bad mount pretty easy to see?

Your not alone!! I have had this problem in my 04 AT since I purchased it used!! I have had it to the dealer for warranty many times with no luck and it is getting annoying.....

 

i get a loud rattle for a second or 2 when i start up my car once in a while especially if its been not driven for a couple of days ,sounds like something grinding in the transmission but i don't notice any problems when i'm driving the car

 

Last time I had a noise coming from under the hood, it was my starter, dealership replaced it under warranty. The noise usually lasted several seconds, sort of like a thunk....

 

On occasion, I'll get a thump on start up. It usually occurs more often in cooler weather. IMO, it's the motor rocking hard in the mounts. My car has done this since I purchased it back in January 2005 and I've noticed the same issue in an 06 G35X loaner.

 

So, was there ever a resolution to this? My car makes the same clunk/thump usually at the morning start-up. I have 69k on the odometer now and trying to get an idea about this before the extended warranty runs out at 100k. Don't want to take it to the dealer yet and have them give me the run around.

I hear this every once in a while. Any of you guy's gas pedal vibrate dramatically on the highway or when you hit bumps?

 

Haven't noticed but I'll listen for it, especially now that the weather's turned cool. No gas pedal vibrations, either.

 

I have this too. Mine is right after I start it up, then proceed to back out of my parking spot. Sounds like a grinding noise.

 

^^That's a different thing. It's your ABS performing a self test. It will do it every time you start the car and begin to move forward. Put your foot on the gas pedal sometime when it's happening and you'll freak a little. Feels like your car is going to fall apart for a millisecond.

 

so was there a solution for this? My car 04AT with about 50k on it makes this little rough grinding noise when i start the car. Doesnt happen all the time but usually when its been siting for a couple of hours.
