Well, I got beat again......

Well, this time is was the last body style Maxima 3.5 SE. We both made the turn in first and punched it. By the end of second gear he was almost 2 cars ahead of me. Does this sound right to all of you?????????????????????????????

Not sure if you read an earlier post of mine either - I got beat by a new Cavalier as well.....

There are more performance mods out there for the Maxima
that there are for our G35s. Was is a 2000 or newer one?
Maybe it was supercharged?

Don't sweat it dude!!! The G is great performer. But, there are so many modified cars (Maxima, Altimas, Sentras) out there, you just can't win them all. Just be careful with the street racing.

Maybe it's YOU !!

Naw, just kidding - Cato's right, there are a ton of performance products out for all of the "seasoned" cars (that have been on the market for 5 years+) - I think there are at least 3 different superchargers available for the Maxima, and twice as many turbos, not to mention the NOS systems that are good for short bursts through the gears.

Plus, there are a number of sleepers out there, anyway - did you see the VW Golf in Motor Trend a couple of issues ago that was officially tested and certified by TUV (the German Auto/Highway authority) as having a top speed of 202 MPH !!
And that was only the Stage II kit, with the aftermarket tuner (forget the name) having a more potent Stage III kit avilable as well. That little VW would SMOKE a Z06 Vette or a Viper, from 0-60 MPH right on up to 202 !!

The Infiniti is a fabulous car that does EVERYTHING well, not just straight line performance. Even with a turbo, supercharger, or NOS, Mr. Maxima will fall further and further behind in spirited mountain or curvy canyon road driving, as the limitations of front wheel drive slowly cause his tires to fade awaaaayyyyyy ...........

dbarnes,
That was not just VW Golf it was AWD R32 with only 5000 US will see. Right, it was Stage II turbo (550 HP) made by HPA Motorsports running 11.49 1/4 mile. Stage III will have over 600 ponies. But the price tag is $25K for upgrades + $30K the car. Still I find it very impressive.

G35 will out run 85% cars on the street. Unless he was modded I dont see any reason you could not beat it.

Well dont be suprised the 02/03 auto Maximas run right their with auto G sedans stock for stock and the manuals run close as well, so I am not suprised. Lots of post and a few of us have both inlcuding Bosssho and the times are near identical. Whomever gets the jump should take it up to triple numbers but then the G should gradually pull a little with slightly better top end.

Yes, GMASTER - that little Golf is impressive, and who would suspect it at a stoplight? (what with all the "posers" out there with outlandish wings and body aero kits, they all look like they could FLY, so when/if we see the real thing - bang!).

I agree also that the Maxima should run neck and neck with the "G" (and even the Altima) - they are all VQ driven - but I bought the "G" Machine because of it's unique combination of luxury, comfort, looks, build quality & reputation, performance, and oh yeah, PRICE !!

There are so many great cars out there, and we can't buy them all, but hat's off to any that can beat a "G" car in ANY category - the competition only makes the manufacturers build better and better products for us to enjoy. It's all good - we are all car lovers, us Americans !

from a previous lightly modded 2k manual maxima se owner, i would have to say it's a drivers race with the car you encountered.........i once ran a 2k3 auto maxima in my 2k and i walked her......i don't know if your auto or manual, but if you're manual, shift faster d@mmit! j/k..

oh yeah, that article on the r32.....0-60 like 3.5?, top speed 202....holy crap batman, can you say super car sleeper?
