Gap in trunk line - any fix?
Gap in trunk line - any fix?
I recently added a spoiler and rear bumper and have been looking at the back of my car a lot more - and i cant help but notice our cars have a pretty noticeable gap between the trunk lid and bumper? It's pretty bad around the taillights but worst right above the bumper. Is there anything we can do about this? Tightening/modifying the latch/clasp or anything?
it always looks like its cracked open... sorry about the crappy pic

sorry not much you can do about that you could lower the latch but your taillights wont line up. u cant pull the bumper up because it will not line up with the quarters. sorry start looking at the front
haha thanks, what i figured
crazy looking is by the way, that was my last car - didn't like it's rear either (whole back was too high against the rest of the car in my opinion)

you don't open the trunk from anything in the gap... you use the key fob or button... the trunk pops open so you can lift. The gap doesn’t help you open it. The gap is a flaw in my opinion. It serves no purpose.

Interesting. Never noticed it since my car is black. Just like I never noticed the unpainted trianglular area by the side mirrors until I read it on the forum. Black blends everything in but sucks when it comes time to clean and you see swirls all over.
I see the gap on a lot of cars and I still don't get it. What I do like is the exhaust/tail pipe is integrated much better than other cars. I had a Olds Aurora and they did a great job with that car. Some cars look like the muffler/tailpipe is an afterthought and just sticks out there with a very unfinished look.
I dont know about the sedans, but there is a little you can do for the coupes.
If you move the trunk latch on the deck lid up all the way, and move the latch on the lower part of the trunk down all the way, you can eliminate a little gap. My car had this to, and it drove me effin nuts. There is a gap between the tail llights and the rear bumper as well. If you take out your tail lights you will see where the bumper is attatched. Just move the tabs up a little and it should eliminate a small part of the gap there too. When you put your tail lights back in, make sure they are put in so everything lines up nice and clean. Just remember to take your time and do it over if you have to.

on the sedan you can’t do anything about the gap – not with hinges or latch anyway... if you tried to close the bottom gap you would completely f-up the fit on top and back-side.
We just have to deal with it. Or cosmetically modify the top of the bumper to close the gap – which would be the most compete waste of time and money ever (IMO)
