Size of Gas Tank

I just purchased a 04 G35 Sedan and I thought it had a 20 Gallon tank. But I filled the car (gauge was on empty) and the car only took 16.5 gallons. The manual says the car has a 20 gallon tank...am I reading something incorrectly.

Thanks

Re: Size of Gas Tank

Discussed before but I'll give you the quick and dirty... The low fuel light comes on after using between 16 and 17 gallons. The tank is actually 20 gallons, so there is still 3-4 gallons left when the light goes on. Many of us have tested the tank's limits, both intentionally and unintentionally, to learn that 20 gallons is correct. I myself drove around until he G sputtered on left handers, and filled with 19.5 gallons.

Yup, it does indeed have a 20 gallon tank. I ran it really
low once and put in over 19 galllons.

Just wanted to let you all know Do not run out of gas if at all avoidable. When you run out of gas it can damage your fuel pump as well as your valves and injectors. Not a good thing. The reason the fuel light comes on at 16 gallons used is it's just a warning to say you are low on fuel. I usually make it a practice to fill with a quarter tank left 12-15 gallons on my usual visit to the nearest 76. I've always been tought to have enough gas to go 100 miles incase of some kind of an emergency.
