just had this issue.

get the cover off to expose the actuator. pull the white lock pin out, go through the reset procedure, push the pin back in, hit the lock and unlock buttons on the fob to test and make sure it works and you should be good to go.

 

i find it weird that our car doesn't come with the regular lever to open it

 

I had this problem about a month ago. I would push but the lid and it wouldn't open. then after I drove off and stopped again it was open. I closed it and drove back to the gas station and it wouldn't open again.

But it hasn't happened again since.
