Diesel trucks feel like they'll crush you with acceleration...

07+ sedans have 3.692 FD... it's the rear end gearing that makes them so much faster off idle and in lower rmp... I drove one when they first came out and could tell immediately that was a primary reason - so I got that ring and pinion in my 04 AT... it accelerates much more like the 07+ now... of course there are other things on my car too… but the FD made quite a difference and gave exactly what I was looking for (in terms of mimicking the 07 acceleration).

Ask Derek (dsskyline) or DaveO... they've both driven my car.

what are your highway crusing RPMs at say 80 MPH? 3500? A gear is a great choice if you are looking for improved acceleration, should take off .5 second on 1/4 mile.

80 mph is about 3250-3300rmp (previously 3K)...

It does help 1/4 but not anywhere near .5 second. maybe .1-.2 (for 3.7FD from 3.3 FD)

If you have ever watched pass time on the speed channel you'll see that it's not just a feeling. There are low 13 second diesel 1/2, 3/4 & 1 ton trucks made every day.

Yes, I know.

The feeling of a 13 sec diesel truck is NOT the same as a 13 second car.

One other thing I notcied this morning is that I do not think this loaner has a LSD or VLSD. That does make a big difference with launch as my car will pull both wheels if it breaks traction and this car is a one wheel wonder off the line. Yes the car does feel a great bit faster, I will be doing the spacer and z-tube as soon as the budget allows and then we will see.

For those that changed their FD gear, did you notice a big decline in Gas MPG or just a small difference?

Slightly worse mpg going form 3.3 to 3.7... but I never got good gas mileage anyway... on a recent road trip with sh!tloads of fwy traffic for a good part of the beginning and CC at 70mph about 70% of the trip and moderate city driving at the end of trip, I got about 20mpg...

To put that in perspective... with 3.3 when I used to drive the car every day (which I dont anymore) 80% fwy/20% city I got 18-19 avg...

BUT - with the 3.7 I normally drive streets 90% and all spirited - avg 15-16mpg...

I know that a lot of different scenarios... but it’s the best real world I have.

I would say if you are overly concerned with mpg, it's best not to mod at all... if 1 or 2 mpg avg less is okay for you, then the gears are a must!

What about your speedometer? How much is it off with the 3.7 FD?

I call placebo affect.

They give you a nice 07 that is nice and clean and your mind thinks
"this car must be better than what I have"

Dealer wants to sell you a new car always,so why wouldnt they give you a nice loaner?
