Question Question for all the AT ppl

My G is at the dealership getting some TSB things taken care of. I have a 07 G35 sedan AT for a loaner. My question is this car feels a lot more responsive and faster than my 05. I know that it has the HR motor but man it feels faster than 26hp worth. I can smoke the tires from a dead stop by just flooring the gas, however in my 05 it won't even chirp a tire from a dead stop. Is this the case for the rest of you? I know that the 235/45/18's on mine get more grip than the 225/55/17's on the loaner, but still my car feels sluggish from take off.
So does everybody elses G feel like a dog from take off?
And has anybody raced a 07+ AT sedan?

Horsepower is definitely up in the 07, and it is around 25 HP, so your are feeling 10% more power or close to it.

Have you though about adding the Motordyne Spacer? I am thinking about this mod, and it is supposed to give a nice little boost in HP and is fairly easy to do in a couple of hours.

Overall I am happy with my 05.

Yes the spacer, z tube and exhaust is in the future. I just feel like it is more than 10% faster, but possibly it is just has a better power curve due to the VVT on both intake and exhaust.
Don't get me wrong I love my G and like it better than the 07 except for the power difference.
Side note the exhaust on the 07 is WAY too quiet compared to the stock 05-06 sedan. It is dual though which looks good ( been looking this over very well so I can plan a custom dual setup for the 05 )

Yes, stock 1st gens are much slower.
20-25 hp is a big difference. I remember recently driving another 04 6mt without mods and it felt so much slower than my car eventhough my car is only making 20 whp more than a stock G.

It's the torque that you are feeling. Did the HR sedan auto get the 7sp auto also? Better gearing would also make the car feel alot quicker.

the first gen g's were overrated big time. that's why a 280 horse 05 will lose to a bmw 330 at 255 horse. The numbers were overinflated, it'd say it should have 03-06 should be more like 250 and the 07s are really 306. a 56 horse increase justifies this car running to 60 in 5.3 or whatever it is vs. ours are like 6.1. 6.2 and the quarter miles as well in the 13s vs. 14s. nissan inflated it, just accept it guys

WRONG! first gens were ~275 hp with automatic suffering more drivetrain loss just like any other car out there. E90 330s are faster then first gen autos because of more agressive gearing and an extra gear. E90 330 is dead even with 6MT G35 with the G having an edge at tripple digits speeds. Do you homework next time.
Thanks.

My 05 X is also getting a TSB taken care of and I was given an 07 X that deffinately feals stronger in the lower RPM's! My only complaint is the lack of feal through the gas pedal. I really have to concentrate to gt this car to accelerate at a moderate pace compared to my 05...and well since its a loaner every start is a drag race for me!! I actually miss driving my 05 more than this 07.

07 sedan has obviously more HP but on paper they have 2 less ft lbs. of TQ than the 05-06. They have a 5AT but its geared more aggressively most likely. They are solid high 13s cars, and we are mid 14 second cars. I drove an 07X for a loaner once and that thing just leaped off the line (AWD obviously), but that very stiff gas pedal could have contributed to it.

07 cars have more power, but their powerband is longer, they rev higher, and they have more agressive gearing to mate up with the new powerband/revs.

It is SIGNIFICANTLY faster.

I still disagree... you ever drive a 330i, the e90? It will still beat a 6mt g period...maybe it's the extra gear..i still think the pull is harder...

Its not about "you thinking" it is faster, its about facts. The fact is that at the 1/4 track they have identical times in respective conditions (AKA Density Altitude). I dont drive a 330 but i have driven the E90 330 on countless occasions. One small suggestion to you: Dont ever compare how the car feels. U can never tell which car is faster or not unless u get 1/4 mile times or line them up next to each other.

Drive a CLS500 and then jump into an s2k and u will swear that the CLS500/E500 will smoke the s2k especially from 60 and up. But u will be shocked if u actually lined them up and saw what the actual result was.
Go drive a E46 M3 and then jump into the GTO 6.0

perception of speed and actual reality will surprise you, sometimes. but yes, the 07's are way quicker than my 04'.
