About to buy a G sedan

I am looking at some with 60k miles and one with 77k miles on it. What should I be aware with on the car? It is a 6MT, when do the clutches and belts go bad. Or what may I need to check out?

I would imagine around 100k, at least that's how it is with other cars. The OC prob was with the 05+, so no worries with that. Best bet IMHO would be to take the car to a mechanic (off premises and of your choice), pay the $100 or whatever - worthit - to check it out first. And request a test drive for a day. Couldn't hurt to ask...

Did the test drive already. I might be able to get it for 10500, is that a decent price?

I wasn't sure if it is worth paying 15,000 for a sedan that has 40k miles.

Would you recommend the 2005 over the 2003 and 2004?

2005 is quite a bit more improved over the 03-04 in terms of interior quality, exterior styling, ect.

Not huge differences, but enough to make me go to an 05.

OC problems are hit or miss from what i have read. Ajaxx, has your car had the OC problem?

Oil Consumption. Some 05-07 Sedan and Coupe (minus 07 sedan) 6mts consumed oil (pretty self explanitory) so infiniti has a TSB?? i think so they give you a new motor if your car does this.

You are right Janik (aka, my new BFF !). They do have a TSB. I luckily have not had to deal with the OC problem. Maybe I have a Wednesday car, lol!!! Anyway, also IMO, I looked at an 03 & 04. The drive itself was nice. Interior was nice too. When I drove my 05....it had me sold. MY "sold!" point was the extra 38 hp the 05 6MT came with. Plus the extra little perks. Go to Edmunds.com and research the spec and features of the 03/04 vs the 05+. I paid $16,700 for mine, yeah, I said I stole it, hehehe. It had 56k totally loaded minus navi and a warranty. That is a pretty good price you have. I would still recommend HIGHLY to take it to a mechanic first tho, anytime you are willing to spend over $5k for a car and it having over 60k.

^ i've heard the 38hp gain feels much less in real world applications. torque didn't change, and the additional power is only high in the rpm range. also, it is widely accepted that the 04 6mt put down closer to 280hp. i believe the 05+ gained a bit of weight, too.

did you notice a big performance gain with the 05 over the 04? i've been considering moving into an 06, but was told not to bother due to the subtle differences.

Yes, you are correct on that also. It is less in real world. I did, however notice a difference. Although, the salesman rode with me in the 04 = no salesman in the 05.....you get the idea. Torque stayed @ 260. It only gained 9 lbs. (and the 05 has a 1000 lb towing capacity. NO, I do not plan to test that, but found it amusing). I am not trying to belittle the 03/04 by any means. A G is a G is a G. They are all awesome cars. I do not know if purchasing an 06 will make that much difference over your 04. But when you are buying your 1st, I absolutely recommend checking the features/spec for the "little things". Ie., I heard the seat controls in the 03/04 were irritating, almost to the point of painful, whereas they seemed to put a little extra support in the 05. Just the little things. The telesteering column, No tape deck, stuff like that. But that is my opinion absolutely! For the price difference, it was hard to pay another $4k for the 05 for those little things.

personally, i noticed the throttle response was quicker on the 05 versus my 04.

but like someone said, the 04 is said to made more power than the advertised 260. (like 270 or 275; difference in rating system they changed for that latter years) at least i'd like to believe so hahaha
