Holy squeeling batman

Well, at my 57k service at the crappership, I got them to look at my belts since it would make a squeel sound under acceleration on a cold start. So they ended up tightening the belts (so they said) and it seemed to be good. The squeel was still there a bit, but it did sound better than before so I was content with it. However, last week it rained a LOT for about 3-4 days straight. Afterwards it would squeel like CRAZZZZYYY... even when I didn't give it any gas. You would think after the engine heated up the belts would get a chance to dry up, NOPE! Even after a 20-30 minute drive it was still squeeling bad. So bad that I had to put it in neutral when at red lights and keep it over 1.3k rpms so it didn't squeel when people were next to me with the windows down. It's embarrassing. However, after a few days of dry weather, it went away. Now, it rained yesterday and it started right back up.

My question is, why all the sudden my belts squeel so bad when it rains. It never did that before it was tightened by the dealership. I would be able to drive in the rain with no problem. You think I need new belts or something? I read a while ago that with our belts, you never have to replace them. is that true? I want to get it fixed asap. It's really awful sounding and embarrassing. Especially when I pull up next to people or into the garage since it amplfies everything by 200. It sounds UUUGGGLLLYYY

Thanks for reading and hope to hear some opinions on how to fix or know whats wrong.

Whoa, who told you our belts never needed changing? My belts were changed under warranty, and I just recently hit 60k, they were also making a noise during start-up. I'm guessing it squeels because it's so tight and the condensation that gets in between while its wet out, causing the belts to squeel even louder. Buy some replacement belts and take it to your local mechanic, you don't have to replace it with oem ones because warranty is not an issue anymore...g/l

ok cool thanks. I'm not sure who told me. I read it somewhere on here actually but didn't really believe it. Just remembered hearing it. Seems like yor right though. Makes sense

Any idea of some good aftermarket belts to use? I can't stand it anymore. I want good ones. Also, which belts should I get? I know there are a couple of them.

I replaced the belts with Gatorback drive belts (purchased in Autozone) at 45K miles. The Gatorback belts are made by Goodyear which is at least better than OEM quality. 20K miles later, I haven't had any squealing noises.

timing/driving chain = don't need changing

accessory belts = need changing

that could be where the confusion is.

^I was thinking the same thing.

Chris...Eugene (bythabay) has a DIY video for changing the belts...buy some and do it yourself. It's not a hard swap.

Thanks everyone. I will take a look at the DIY. I don't see it being that hard. Seems simple enough. I just don't want to pay anyone to do a simple job like this. I just need to know which ones are good to get. Any reccomendations? Thanks guys for the help!

factory replacement are a good start. It really doesn't matter, most belts are required to be changed after 30K anyways. They are also probably really cheap. The price gets huge because of labor so if you can do it yourself indeed you'll be winning.

http://www.infinitihelp.com/diy/gsed..._procedure.htm found the DIY. However, do I need to replace those 2 belts? Or just one of them? Also I don't have that belt tool thing he uses at the end. Seems easy, but anyone know where I can pick up those belts?

Do I need an Alternator belt?? I'm not even sure which belt (s) I need. If anyone knows, post it on up. Also, if there is a direct link to show me exactly where to get it, that would be very helpful. I'll probably just go OEM. No need to go aftermarket.

This what I need? http://www.lokeyinfinitiparts.com/se...-Kit-AC/Detail
