Pushing the VDC off button only partially shuts down the nanny. See my thread about turning VDC off for real. By the way, although I almost always drive with the VDC system completely disabled, I have a manual not auto, which provides better driver throttle/manual traction control, and many years of unassisted rear wheel driving experience. VDC WILL "save" you from many driver errors in high speed corners where traction is being lost for whatever reason. For the same reason, it definitely spoils some of the fun when getting it on.

so I'm confused here. by default, the VDC is off for the G35x. Do I need to turn it on so that I can have better traction in non-dry conditions, or does it kick in automatically?
I originially thought that the car would automatically kick into 4wd once it detects slippery conditions. However, you can manually turn on 4wd all the time by pressing the button, right?

4WD is on up till about 12 mph regardless of VDC on or off. Pressing the "snow" button directs 50% of the power to the front wheels up to 12 mph. When the X detects slip it begins by closing the throttle body to reduce the amount of power going to the wheels. It than can allow up to 50% of the power to be applied to the front wheels. This is a RWD biased system and from what I have read the vehicle likes to maintain that bias. You cannot manually turn 4wd on all the time unless you can somehow signal the powertrain control module to activate the electronic clutch for the front wheels....hmmmmm nah to much work. Hope this info helps.
