after getting into my car this morning, I pressed the VDC button, and alight came on the dash indicating that VDC is off. So my conclusion is that VDC is by default on, and thus you would have to turn it off manually.

TRBULNT is correct in the car responsiveness.

EDIT: VDC OFF!!!
My car performs perfect in rain and snow, in NY you have to be not bright of a human being to drive in summer tires during winter...with the VDC on ofcourse...

They've made vehicles for a hundred years with nothing like VDC on it. Back then, it was just driver common sense that you needed and a little skill.

But the entire reason i bought my x was for inclimate weather, so no point for me to turn it off...especially when driving just to get from Point A to point B.

My previous car had a 100% fully disabling traction control system. You hit the button and it was 100% off. On rainy days or when there was salt, leaves, etc on the road i'd leave it on. But on sunny warm days when traction would be best...i clicked it off right when i started the car up.

I have the KP module as well, but all it does is automatically turn VDC off or on when you start up, restoring the previous state.

It does not fully disable VDC. The only way to fully disable VDC is to disconnect the yaw sensor. Recently I have been wondering what other affects disconnecting the yaw sensor might have, like air bag deployment and black box data recording. hmmm, new thread...
