Dead zone with brake pedal travel?

Anyone else seem to have a "dead zone" with their brake pedal? Like if you start pressing it,you need to go about 1" or so before you get the car to start slowing significanty?

I've only owned my car 3 weeks, and i'm just realizing it now. It stops fine. Full pressure i can force myself against the seatbelt. if i pump the pedal, the engagment point stays the same and doesn't rise up.

They aren't spongy, i just need to press down 1" or so before i get significant response.

I kinda hate it. I wish it grabbed right from the top.

Sounds like you might have some air in the lines.

It doesn't feel like it though. There is no sponginess and the pedal doesn't "pump up".

I'll check it out though. Easier for me to do a quick bleed myself. Does these cars bleed the brakes like a typical vehicle or does it require special tools and procedures?

I've done 2 bleeds on OEM systems and 3 big brake kits using the old-way style...."pump....hold" as I open the bleeder and let the fluid spill out. My buddy was doing the pumping of the pedal while I was bleeding them. No special tools required but I did get a 3 foot piece of clear vinyl tubing which helps direct the spilled fluid to a container.

Also, its recommended to start bleeding from the caliper farthest away from the master cylinder...so...rear passenger > rear driver > front passenger > front driver.

Hope this does the trick for you. Post up the results and if it didn't clear it, we can start thinking of other options

Thanks. SO it is like a typical bleed then. I'm expeirenced with brakes I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any unique procedures required with the G35.

I will pick up some fluid and post the results. May not get to it for a few days though. Couldn't hurt to get fresh brake fluid in the lines anyway.
