Now the gas flap? Do I have a lemon?

Overall, Ive been happy with the G. However, I've just had so many problems. First an incessant door rattle on the two front doors, in which after 3 tries, Crest Infiniti has still been unable to repair. I refuse to go into the thread we have and repair it myself. If I wanted to do repairs on a 2004 35k+ vehicle with under 6k miles, I should have bought a Hyundai and called it a day. Then, my engine has a rough idle at low RPMs, so at stop lights, I feel like I am being rocked back and forth. When starting my car, and putting into drive, my car acts like a wind up toy and will accelerate somewhat fast without the gas pedal depressed then eventually slow down. My tires were ruined because Crest had placed defective tire gauge caps on my stems (which they replaced). My right windshield wiper can only ooze out windshield solution in sputters, and the exhaust comes out in only one of my exhaust pipes, leaving the other spotless.

So I am driving home from my sucky job as a traveling consultant (maybe this is why I am so disillusioned?) at 1 am, nearly out of gas last night. I pull over to get some gas, and I keep pressing at the damn gas flap to open. It wont budge. There are no signs of anyone hitting me, the damn thing is just stuck. After futile attempts to pry it open with my fingers, I try to use my keys to pry it open. No go. I go home to my drive way, not knowing if I have enough fuel to get there, and park in my driveway which has an upward incline. This time, the door opens easily. So I am like WTF?! So I go back to the gas station, and sure enough, on a level plane, my gas flap will not open. I had to risk it to go on a incline to lodge something into the flap so it wouldnt close, and go back to the gas station. I know this car was made in Japan, but were they and the robots drunk when they made it? Perhaps they hired Ford Explorer technicians when I wasnt looking.

Anyone else have problems similiar to my vehicle? I am getting quite tired of all these manufacturing goofs. I love the car, but damn, some quality control would be nice. So would thicker paint.

The gas flap locks if the doors are locked. When the doors are unlocked, you will be able to open the gas flap. Hope that helps.

Yes, it's happened to me too, very sporadic, wouldn't do it for the dealer, I am going to have them check it again when I take it for my 7500 service this week though, luckily I usually fill up at a half tank! It has to be something in the actuator at the fuel door!

You may have a lemon. I think you need to read your owners manual and understand some of the features on your 35G+ car. You may have had a bad dealership to work with. You may have had a bad day. I hope you start enjoying your car again because that is what it is about.

Re: Now the gas flap? Do I have a lemon?

I had a dash rattle. The dealer fixed it. I had a moon roof rattle. The dealer fixed it. My door rattles went away at about 8,000 miles. My steering wheel rubber started to come off. My dealer ordered me a new steering wheel.

At $30,000, I do not expect a German quality fit and finish.

Keep good records of the problems, and learn your states Lemon Laws. You may be able to get a new car.

Good luck.

p.s. push on the right side of the gas cap door.

If his is the same problem I have had, that won't help, the actuator doesn't open is what the problem is.

man before you guys start bitchin about your car you should really take some time and read the owners manual.

The gas flap lock will not open unless all door are unlocked.

The other pipe on the muffler only flows at high pressure.

door rattles are common, I have had some. the problem I see is that the is no hole for the pressure made by the speaker to escape.

I spent 50,000 plus on my mercedes. Who can tell me how much I should spend to get the so-called German quality. By the way, the rear seat of my Mercedes creaks like crazy too. So if you get a chance to return your lemon, do not buy a mercedes.

Sorry to hear of your problems, sounds like the dealership you've been taking your car to doesn't have a very competent service dept. Try bringing your G to another Infiniti dealer if it's not too far of a drive for you. Another option is to call up Infiniti Consumer Affairs and have them document all the problems you've experienced with your car. They will ask you to bring you car back to a dealer and then they'll follow up with the dealership regarding the repairs. You'll be suprised how much more helpful the dealership service dept. is when Inifiniti corporate is involved.

Where does it say this? My gas door lock opens on the first keyfob press, along with the driver door, most of the time anyway, LOL!

Re: Now the gas flap? Do I have a lemon?

The gas flap opens if the DRIVER's door is unlocked. You do not need all of the doors to be unlocked. BUT!!!!!! You must use some sort of power unlock system to open the gas flap. You CANNOT merely pull the door lock to the unlocked position.

So when you pull into the gas station if your doors are locked you must either push the unlock button that unlocks all the doors, or the unlock button on the keyfob once the key is out of the ignition.

If you did indeed use a power unlock system, and the gas flap still does not open then you have a problem. I hope this explanation might clear up some confusion.
