2006 G35 owner with questions/problem

Hey guys, I bought a 2006 G35 Sedan with the premium package about a month or so ago. I am really beating myself up over buying this car right now. I totally understand that I bought the car and some of the issues I have are a matter of preference. I bought the car out of town and test drove it in rush hour traffic which I don't have to tell anyone wasn't very smart. I am dealing with the "normal" issues that lots of people are having like the driver seat rocking and the gas pump shutting off 10 times trying to fill the car up. My biggest gripe is the ride itself. I need to tell everyone that the car I traded in on the G was a 2006 Ford Mustang GT and I can honestly say that the G rides only marginally better. On smooth roads like the interstates I would probably say that the mustang even rode better. Every single time the asphalt moves an inch up or down you can feel it, even on smooth roads you can feel the chatter in the roads to the point of almost making me sick. You hit a pothole and it seems like every interior panel in the car creaks which makes it seem even worse. Oh, also my car has 47k miles and brand new tires with less than 4k miles on them. The car also has the standard 17 inch rims(non-sport model) and the car tracks straight as an arrow on every road surface I've been on. I've dropped the tire pressures all the way down to 28 psi and it made a big difference in the ride quality but the road noise probably doubled. My question to you guys is what are my options for a more supple ride other than trading in my car that I've had only a month. My parents just traded in an 05 Altima SE with 60k miles on it and it not only rode lots better it was also 1/2 as quiet on the inside(with the exception of the closed sunroof which was loud). Could my shocks be going bad or something? If this is what it's supposed to be i'm surprised the sports models with the stiffer springs don't crack the windows when you hit a pothole. I actually rented a car to take on vacation this year to keep from having to drive the rough riding G so im getting desperate. Leaving on a positive note, my G is absolutely beautiful to look at on the outside. Also I've already went wild on going after all the rattles inside (with some success)and I'm starting to work on the insane wind noise now. Please Help. Tim

I really find it hard to believe that you purchased a car without test driving it at highway speeds. But since you have, maybe you could let us know what tire brand/model/size you have on the G as this could give clues to your ride quality or lack thereof. Also, I have the sport suspension and never felt that it was harsh. It is firm, but comfortable ride stock. I have added OEM 19s with 35 series rubber and 350z front springs and g35 coupe rear springs and it still has a comfortable ride with much better handling(less body roll, brake dive and acceleration squat) and a negligible increase in tire noise on certain roads.
Short of trying new tires and having your suspension checked, you may have to either put up with it or sell it for a Camry or Lexus ES.
It sounds like a Lexus ES330 or ES350 would have given you the more supple ride you are looking for.

I'm not quote so sure it should be true to an extent. I went from a '03 Mustang GT to my '06 G35x and the ride was night and day difference. I used to hate driving the Mustang because of how stiff it rode, while my G rides nice and quiet and cozy. It was definitely a huge improvement in ride quality. My girlfriend has an '07 Lexus IS250 and the rides are actually quite similar (although the lexus has ZERO interior rattles)

t600, if you are convinced there is something wrong with the car, perhaps it's time to take it in for repair under warranty. I know the compression rodes tend to go on these cars and i beleive one of the signs is banging around and rough ride. Perhaps that is what is wrong with your car

ok... your car is a 2006... Take it to an Infiniti Dealership, it is still under warranty and you can can get most of the TSB's taken care of immediately... AS for the ride issue, have the dealership inspect all the shocks... If you have the sport package, you might want to think about investing in some Tein H-techs, this will lower car, but it will soften your ride considerably... Make sure you purchase the Sedan H-Techs... I had 350Z H-techs and the car was lowered and supple smooth ride... I am very sorry for your problems, but i do wish you the best, and Welcome to driver...

Hey guys, I appreciate everyone chiming in here....i've been busy and just now getting back in here. I have a large list of things that I will have the dealer to look at and I will bring it in soon. Driving over speed bumps both front tires have a creaking sounds of sorts which from what I understand could be the compression rods. Also the right rear wheel well has what seems to be oil splattered up from behind the shock. I also sprayed flat black over it and the next time I went to wash it, the oil looking spot was back again. The tires I have are Yokohama YK520 size p215/55R17....I'm also going to get these tires balanced to make sure they aren't part of the problem even if they do only have 4,000 miles on them. I've got about 10 things for the dealer to look at thus far....really concerning considering I've never taken a previous car i've owned back to the dealer for anything but recalls, safety & powertrain problems. I'm hearing wind and road noise in my sleep. Thanks again for your help guys. I've got some more questions to ask but I will start a new thread for that.

can you isolate the window that is causing the wind noise? there is a tsb out on that and should be an easy fix for the dealer. also, sounds like compression rods which is also covered under a tsb. good luck - these are not major things and they are all well documented as are the fixes.
