^it's still pretty restrictive though....the 05+ should open up th back end just a tad more.

I really loved my 03 setup too....till i got the HKS then i really loved that...now I'm gonna love something else. It's always harder to love something until we get a taste of something else

So GF left me at home while she went out with her friends so I did a couple cute mods tonight.....hope you guys like

flat black my 05+ muffler and polished the **** out of the tips. Also adjusted the tips forward a bit to sit a bit more flush.

This is whats going to be poking right under the nismo rear valence...i like it.

Polish job makes so much difference!!!

Got some old socks on the tips and off the the muffler shop tomorrow!

I also kinda measured the mufflers.

the 05+ sedans have longer tips by about 2 inches. It's evident in the pictures that there are still 2 inches of exposed tips right behind the polished covers.

muffler chamber itself is also longer by about 3 inches and 1/2 inches wider. This should really free up the back end a bit. I wish i measured the specs on my HKS before I sold it.

I have a hard time believing that the 05/06 muffler is better flowing. It is a larger muffler because Nissan saw fit to quell some of the noise coming from the much smaller midpipe resonator of the 05/06 sedan. So if anything, the 05/06 muffler probably is ever so slightly more "restrictive". I've got the 05/06 midpipe teamed with my 03/04 muffler and the volume is probably 40% louder than that of a stock 05/06 sedan. With the HR y-pipe and revup airbox, it's at least 50% louder and it sounds amazing.

i've done some research followed by the various sound clips on youtube. I've decided that with the front setup that I have (HR Y pipe and coupe mid pipe), the 05+ muffler will provide more of a growl I'm looking for. I hate drones and would much rather have my growl at 3000 + RPM (thats why i got rid of the HKS), I think this will be a good experiment. Additionally, The muffler will not be as tucked in as the 03-04 mufflers so thats always a bonus. I currently have an 03-04 muffler on, and it is really hidden behind the nismo rear valence.

In any case, if I decide that the 05+ muffler is just not what I'm looking for, I could always switch back to the 03-04 muffler and get the fat boy exhaust tips . It's also interesting that no one's ever put an 05+ muffler on an 03-04 sedan, since I found out the hard way its not plug and play. It'll be nice to see what results i'll get. So Dave, after I'm done, we'll compare sound clips.

My setup: z-tube, crawford plenum, HR Y pipe, coupe mid pipe, 05+ sedan muffler.

I REALLLY want that coupe/z growl.

i paid 45 for the 05+ muffler and will probably pay 20-30 for the muffler shop fab, give or take $75 bucks is well worth me finding out what sounds this setup will produce.

My final decision behind the 03-04 muffler vs the 05 muffler laid heavily on these two sound clips:

I'm sorry i cant embed them somehow dont know why, it's a mystery

or

in the end.....the 05+ muffler won my heart by a slight margin.

I just got it installed.....the initial throttle response was quick and the growl starts at a lower RPM now.

the sound is a bit deeper than my 03-04 muffler, still has the distinctive VQ growl.....best of all....the tip comes out all the way to be flush with the nismo rear valence!!!

The muffler is so fvckin beefy it almost didnt fit.......after cutting off the 05 bracket that sticks out on the muffler, I still need to trim about a quarter inch of the plastic off the underside of my rear bumper. I had $23 bucks on me so the muffler shop just charged me 23 for welding a new bracket and installing it. all in all a good exp.

i'll post sound clips when the HR y pipe comes in

totally love this setup...the growl is most definitely deeper than the coupe middy with the 03-04 muffler. I had the 03-04 muffler on this morning...came home with the 05+, the results are unbiased....its definitely deeper and the growl starts at a lower RPM. When the engine first turns over you can already hear the growl....vs on the 03, it has a very quiet start.

cant wait for the HR Y pipe
