Help, my g35x is terrible in the snow

I have a 2004 G35x with Kumho Solus KH16 tires (decent tread). We are starting to get snow in NY and I can't stop the car...seriously! When going 15mph I try to stop and the ABS kicks in while I slide for 30ft.

The car slips and slides on a flat road while excelerating and the "slip" indicator comes on. I know the AWD only kicks in when needed...Does this mean the AWD is engaging?

I've been reading some posts and people seem happy with this car in the snow...is it just my tires or is there something else I should look at? Also...what are good tires for this AWD system?

thank you...I'm a newbie to the board and I really need help.

tires. if you step on the brake and it senses the wheels skidding, its cause the tires loose grip. the x performs in the snow usually in acceleration and handling.

The AWD is always engaged under 11MPH. (or around there) The ratio depends on if you have the snow button pressed or not. The computer controls how much ratio front and rear to give. But your AWD system is always active and every time you start from a dead stop, all 4 wheels have power to some extent. The SLIP light means the VDC is kicking in and trying to control wheel spin.

You are driving in the snow with the SNOW button to ON right?

TIRES are the most important factor here. The Kumho's don't have a good review as a snow tires

Most people who drive in the snow use two sets of tires. They put some good snow tires on their stock wheels for the winter, and then have a summer set of nice wheels and tires. If you don't want to go that route, you can either get snow tires and swap your kumho's back on in the spring, or get a decent set of all-seasons.

Thank you all for the quick reply.

I guess my real problem is the stopping. Does anyone else have that problem with the ABS always kicking in followed by a long slide? If not...it just might be time to put on a new set.

Might just be your tires, or you're not braking soon enough, and perhaps a little too hard on the gas when going from a stop. This is my 3rd snowy winter with the G (mine is RWD), and I've had no problems going or stopping. I have Blizzaks for the winter.

I have the same problem too. This is my my first winter with the G and the same thing happen to me when i was going 15mph. I stop and the ABS kicks in but i only slide for like 10ft. So my guess is that you should get better tires.

Its probably your tires. Get some good all seasons and they do just fine. Even better with winters. But then you gotta swap in the spring and the snow isnt that bad in ny anyways...

If you find yourself skidding for 30ft, slam on the brakes and throw that baby in reverse and reverse yourself into a stop. I did it once and it worked great. No car trouble in that incident thankgood.
