Consumer Reports' critique was that the brightness and sharpness of the orange showed up on the windshield, as a glaring reflection, which caused a "blinding" of the driver at night. This results in vision fatigue over time--- maybe they do know a bit about lighting after all. Secondly, the black/gray color layout in the daytime required that the dash lights be on at all times since one can't read the gauges.

If you read the "What I hate about my G" thread (which may have >200 entries by now) you'll see that the Nissan engineers made quite a few design errors (as do most car manufacturers), such as placement of the seat controls on the seat itself, the dash lights, etc.

pontiac red lights look nice, easy on the eyes. orange is kinda ehhh, not bad/not great... gotta agree with mustang, white/blue is FTW.
