Stock G35 Coupe Y-Pipe!
Stock G35 Coupe Y-Pipe!
Does anyone know if the stock G35 coupe y-pipe will fit on a sedan? Also will it give any gains at all and what would the sound be like ? Im looking to put this ypipe in with helix test pipes , worth it or not? Martin

Re: Stock G35 Coupe Y-Pipe!
The coupe Y-pipe will fit on a sedan, but that is because it is the same identical piece found on the sedan. So no sense in changing that. What is different is the mid-pipe. Changing to the coupe mid-pipe ill change your sound to sound more like the coupe but not exactly. Gives you more of a deeper exhaust note with the burble. As far as gains you won't see much if any gain from the mid-pipe alone. What gives the gain is mainly in an aftermarket Y-pipe like JIC, Fujitsubo, Japtrix, NFC, etc. The stock y-pipe is quite restrictive. Combine the aftermarket y-pipe and the coupe mid-pipe together and you should be seeing something like 6-8 rwhp.

Re: Stock G35 Coupe Y-Pipe!
Both the G35 sedan and coupe share the same identical Y-pipe as the 350Z unit. There is absolutely no performance gain or sound change from such swap between the three cars. The mid-pipe (aka B-pipe) is different between the Sedan and the Coupe, but little performance gain is realized from such a change. You will expect to have increased noise level, however.

Ah crap, I just realized he was talking about the Y-pipe and I was thinking about the mid-pipe all along since that is the popular mod for people to do. I will edit my post above to reflect accurate information.

Re: Stock G35 Coupe Y-Pipe!
Thanks for making me realize that the midpipe was what I wanted all along =) ... Thanks lol! So, the midpipe along with the helix test pipes or any others will sound better and have a little bit of gains? Also is it worth changing if im going borla cat back? im pretty sure the catback replaces everything so im actually sounding stupid by asking hm.. maybe ill just do that, thanks for your help though guys. Re: Stock G35 Coupe Y-Pipe!
If your going to get test pipes you might as well get an aftermarket Y-pipe as well to get maximal gains without buying a catback. If your thinking about going Borla or any other cat back (ones that actually replace everything from the cats on back) no need to get a coupe mid-pipe or an aftermarket y-pipe. The Borla true dual has an H-pipe that replaces the y-pipe, two seperate midpipes with resonators, and then one muffler that has two seperate exits and twin tips. If you get the Borla you can still get test-pipes or high flow cats to go along with that. That would give you the most gain.
