Weird Noise help!

Just recently this week when i floored my car to redline it makes a weird pingkindasound when its about to redline. It goes away when i shift, but it happens everytime it gets close to redline. Any suggestions? Should i bring it to the dealership? Should i take my instake off?

Just a thought, do you have a plenum spacer installed? I have the Motordyne 5/16" spacer and once in a while when I mash the gas pedal, the engine would make a slight whistle sound coming from the spacer. From what I read up this is normal.

What kind of gas are you running?

This would be my 1st question. Other things to consider would be: a) putting a good injector cleaner, some amount added every time fuel is added (not just a big dump in every 3000 miles); b) carbon buildup can also cause pinging, going to higher octane fuel will help (it may take a few tank fulls to clean it out tho); c) EGR flow can sometimes cause the pinging, and; d) a coolant sensor may be faulty (or even the knock detector), causing the computer to think the engine is cooler than it really is. This would lead to over advanced ignition timing and pinging.

Finally, I could be wrong but if you're repeatedly redlining the car despite this sound and it results in engine/tranny damage, it could void the warranty (some dealerships will certainly question you, others will simply do the repairs).

Good luck and I hope this helps.
