Paint Mismatch or am I just OCD?

I recently had my bumper cover replaced and painted and the rear right door repainted. The rear right door was completely repainted and it turned out perfect but the bumper is bugging me out. Is this a mismatch or just me nitpicking?

depends on how they blended the RT QTR... cause on the RT side, the bumper is lighter, and on the LT, the bumper is darker...

This is also somewhat of an illusion based on reflections, and also, it is documented, and you can ask any bodyshop, that the based material of plastic versus metal will affect the way a paint dries and finishes... go out to the dealership and look at how many factory bumpers are off by at least this much.

That being said... yeah, it looks like it needs a little more red.

That's a mismatch, but those lower rear plastics don't look like they match either.

Is your car DG or BS?

Definitely looks discolored/mismatched. While reflections may be a factor, did you notice the color to have this much variation prior to the paint job?

I may have noticed a slight variation, but this seems to be significantly more.

Shots from the previous bumer (not exactly ideal shots, I know):

Well now you've done it!! It looks like pictures of 2 different cars. The mismatch is not as visible from this angle, but every time you take a picture, the color is a shade different from the previous one. Damn these "new-fangled" colors.... gone are the days when black was black and not obsidian, true black, midnight black, metallic black, etc. Damn those color and light sciences people!

Just wanna clarify that both of the above shots are the old bumper, although the undamaged picture is taken with a different camera than all the others.

In the actual damage pic... the bumper looks more red than the decklid...

and i was referring to the reflection of the sun to your eye off of different surfaces... basically on the same train of thought as "new-fangled" colors...

Mismatch. BS is actally a hard color to match. I got my nismo kit painted at my uncles shop and it looked great int he shop, but once it was outside in the sun, you could tell it was off. They repainted it up and it was good to go. They added a bit more black to the mix to darken the color since it was lighter

There is no doubt that the new bumper is lighter. You have to ask them if they can do something about it. It will bug you to no end. It almost looks like the car is DG and the bumper is BS (exageration, but...)....but then it looks the opposite on the right-hand side bumper. and then the wheels totally changed too.

I just got a new bumper cover too. So I understand your skepticism.

Dave
