Help me decide: 03 or 04??
Help me decide: 03 or 04??
OK, here's the deal. Right now I'm in an unreliable Lincoln LS V8. I love the car but my extended warranty is about to expire so I need to move on.
So far I've found an '03 G35, manual, 51,xxx miles for $13,000. Appears to be stock.
I've also found an '04 G35, manual, 77,xxx miles for $13,000. It has CAI, Borla exhaust, tint on all windows, upgraded speakers.
The '04 has one police reported accident on the Carfax. From the sounds of it they hit something in the road. That was 35,000 miles ago. I have not seen the Carfax for the '03.
The '03 has better paint. I can see scratches that have been filled in on the '04. then again, it's got 77,000 miles so more wear and tear is expected.
I don't know....I'm torn on what to get. What does the G35 crowd think?

I can't speak for the G35 crowd, due to having mine for less than a week. However, I typically view modded, used cars as a bad thing. In my personal opinion, a modded used car has, most likely, been driven harder than the stock car, but this also depends on the driver.
I always look for "stock" cars when I'm used car shopping.

Out of those two i'd go with the '03, but it's probably out of warranty soon if there is any left.
I personally would go with the newest and least amount of miles you can possibly afford.

alright, seems like pretty much everyone agrees that the '03 is probably the better buy here. Is that because of the miles, the aftermarket parts, something else?
One thing that might make a difference is if the dealership with the '03 low ***** me on my Lincoln. I've already gotten a pretty good verbal quote from the '04 dealer. But I suppose I could play them against each other a little bit.
Thanks for the help so far! Tomorrow could be my first day as a G35 owner!!!

The game they play is to low ball you on your car, but then come up with it and not take anything off the price of the car you are buying. In other words, they give you more on your car to feel better and make up for it by not discounting their car any.

Yeah I like the car but I think I got a lemon. Warranty is running out so it's time to move on to something hopefully a little more reliable. Good luck with your M3! Someday...
wideband o2 sensors, TCM inside tranny and upgraded, ECU upgradded, OBDII, apparently BCM is upgraded too becasue pre-04.5 have problems with things like CC when adding shorter FD (ring & pinion), I'm sure there are other things I'm not thinking of... basically everything on an 05+ but they didnt do it 'till half year 04... cosmetically they are basically the same.
