coupe vs. sedan revisited

I ran against an auto G-Coupe 3 times from a stop. Off the line he instantly pulled 1 car to two cars (although I had 2 passengers and groceries in the trunk), but above 60 I was able to close and pass him. We ran from a roll 45 - on and I was able to pull a away and hold about a car length (his headlights were visible in my center rear view). Brief conversation with the guy - says he's manually shifting his auto coupe, he asks what I have done "He knows I have done something" I state I basically leave the car in drive.

I knew the intake mods would be better on the highend but, my pulling power on the highend is about as dramatic as his was off the light.

I'll see him again with two less passengers and less than a quarter tank. I have a stillen cai w/ztube

Re: coupe vs. sedan revisited

I have the Injen CAI and the same experiences as you, the coupe has a greater ability to get off the line for an auto then an auto sedan but due to the made up HP from the intake and the less weight of the sedan I pull on them and beat them all of the time. 6mt's also because of the driver....

Re: coupe vs. sedan revisited

Glad that someone else could chime in on this because - like I said the coupe was out - again I had 2 passengers and an almost full tank. He instantly pulled off from the light, however the intake does it job Some people state that the gains are almost neglible, but I know for certain I would not have been able to close and pull on him eventually without it. When we ran from a roll only certifies the fact that the intake/ztube helps.

I will have to say that the coupe is faster than i thought from a standstill - especially from a stop.

Re: coupe vs. sedan revisited

hmmm. I drive a 6mt coupe and ive been in 4-5 run-ins with a sedan in which ive won.. from a stop, roll wahtever. Up to that point i was completely stock, and one of the sedans i raced had exhaust /intake. Its not liek i won by alot, but i was still ahead. When you say you were 1-2 cars ahead I find it hard to believe.

Re: coupe vs. sedan revisited

I think the races were Auto vs. Auto. Someone else said it depends on the coupe driver if it's a 6MT coupe vs. Auto Sedan. My sedan's auto and I've only raced a coupe once, it was a 6MT. I wasn't really ready when we started but managed to keep up, at 70mph, there were about 3-4 feet between my front bumper and his rear. It depends on the drivers of both cars, autos who use manual mode can mess up too.

After that race, the obnoxious passenger yelled out "You should have gotten a coupe!" The funny thing is, I raced the same guy with the same passenger at the same stop light a few months back when I had my Z and he had nothing on me!

RACE VIDEO proves sedan worthiness

This will clear things up LOL

http://www.kptechnologies.net/chris/chris_race.htm

This is the raceday at ATCO NJ in April. The Sedan is mine and the Coupe is our own Ed_C's.

He has a lightly modded coupe 6mt and mine is a more modded sedan 5at. To his defense my RT was a bit better and he said he hit the rev limiter on one of the shifts ....and he now can kill me with his plenum and pulley if he gets the launch down! Thanks for permission Ed you are a true sportsman.

Re: RACE VIDEO proves sedan worthiness

PS i posted the slips from this run in april - his was a 14.77 at 94.45 with a .204 RT.

Mine was a 14.25 at 97.18 with a .089 R/T. I had Injen CAI which i do not now - so maybe i would run a 14.21 at 97.08 instead with Z tube and modified intake setup.

Love the sound of our cars in stereo cranking out a harmony!

Re: RACE VIDEO proves sedan worthiness

I obviously am cheering on the sedans since I'm an owner, but he obviously struggled to do anything right he he could only squeeze out a 14.77. Granted, your times are magnificent for an auto sedan, his are horrific. I'm a believer that the winner of the coupe/sedan race will 90% of the time be driver. The other 10% will go to luck of the draw as certain cars just produce more power then others of the same model.

Re: RACE VIDEO proves sedan worthiness

Sixfive nice run, question. With your Injen CAI why would you be running a little slower in the 1/4 mile time but higher MPH then the ztube? I dont think the Ztube puts out nearly as much as the Injen, and also did you ever clean the CAI cone? And when should I clean mine/ Ive had it for about 8 or 9 months, almost a year. Thanks, Martin

Re: RACE VIDEO proves sedan worthiness

I was just throwing numbers up that i made up - total speculation on what the Z tube would do to the same quarter mile thru a time machine.

As for the injen it has its higher end power i believe but at the expense of lower end loss (if even so slightly). I dont really know and no one else really does either but its fun to speculate and so i've had many confingurations for many thousands of miles. I think the modified airbox and the K&N drop in PLUS the z tube is great for lower end response where it may matter a bit more for day to day driving. I've sort of bought into the notion that the resonance of the conical filter is not as good as the panel. I think you change it with a z tube but not quite like with an Injen or a Pop. I assure you I will change my mind again.

I cleaned it after abhout 10K of use - dont clean it too much and carefully oil it and leave it alone even if it seems dry. Buy the K&N filter recharege kit - all the instructions are perfect for the injen!
