I'm &%#@! ed!!!!!

The right rear bearing went on my 03 sedan and I had it changed
by a mechanic that came highly recommended, after 2 weeks the wheel
is making noise. Brought is to another garage and was told that the bearing
bolt is stripped along with the drive shaft and that my new bearing has to
be replaced. Hopefully I can get the drive shaft re threaded...any thoughts
to what the hell happened, I won't bring it back to the garage that did the work as I have lost all faith in them.

Sounds like improper torque specs. I would take it back anyway, it's gonna cost you a lot to fix it somewhere else. Just watch over him.

I won't get the 60$ back for the idiot's time or the money back for the bearing, so will bring it to another garage where the guy has been around
as long as I have..

Why waste dealing with halfshaft? Just get a remanufactured one. They're cheap.

Its 161$ for a remanufactured shaft, so will find out tomorrow how much
just to rethread...Looks like the guy who changed my bearing put
too much heat to it...

Wow that sucks.

I would take it back to that guy and make him fix his F-up.

My experience with a reman'd halfshaft was not good. I replaced one on my Maxima, and it never really drove the same again. On any moderately hard cornering, the primary drive wheel would switch mid-turn (at least that's what it felt like), which made the car go from it's normal and predictable understeer to a somewhat scary oversteer. I had it re-replaced at the same shop thinking the shaft was bad, but the replacement acted the same.

I asked a few other mechanics about it, and they thought that perhaps the new shaft's torque specs weren't up to spec, causing it to flex a little more than normal.

He shouldn't have put ANY heat on it! He should have pressed them off with a Hydraulic press. I cut the bearings off the rear axle shafts of my old F-100 once, within a month, both broke sending my rear tires down the road ahead of me. I had crystallized the steel and the shafts broke.

They were able to rethread the shaft and replace the bearing but I drove
it and did the swirve from side to side and seems to make a little noise
on the right rear where all this work was done. When I originally called the
dealer to get the work done he said once in a while they have to change
the hub too, that is why I stayed away from the dealer, I jacked up the rear
and both rear wheels do not turn freely when the car is in neutral but not sure if its the brakes or what...

May have to adjust the ebrakes. Simple to do with a screwdriver.
