Known issues for the 1st yr production (2003) G35

Hi,

It's my first post.
I'm in the market for a used G35 sedan.
I was wondering if there are any known issues so far for the first yr production of G35 auto (I believe it's 2003, and they had auto tranny only).

Thanks in advance

YJ

Try looking in the TSB section to get an idea of what you might be getting. You may also be getting a car that has had all the work done.

i bought my g35 3 months after it was released. only thing is the front brakes wore out a little quickly, and the cd changer is a little slower than newer models. with the bose system, there is a wire in the door that rattles a little on occaision but you can read other posts on how to fix that yourself easily. how soon are you looking to buy?

i like it now, but hope this sucker lasts...

I too bought my G sedan in April of 2002 and have had most TSBs applied. Check out the hands on the clock! Not sure about a TSB but I had mine replaced with the newer "larger" hands model.
If you are buying used, get the dealer to let you take it home for 24 hours. If he refuses, go see another dealer. I am assuming you are buying from a dealer.
Most importantly is too check if the car has been in any accidents! It's not to hard to pick out non factory paint but any reputable auto body shop can tell you in a couple of minutes if it's been BANGED!
Have a great day;

Do yourself a favor and get an 04, or at least a 03.5. Trust me

What's the difference between 2003 and 2003.5?
Is it actually called 2003.5 year model? or since there was some changes in the middle of model year, people just call it that way?

2003.5 has less TSB's. I got the 2003.5. The only visit to the dealer was about the door panel noise. Everything is perfect for me. I have the car for 10 months now, and I still feel the same way when I bought it.

Welcome to G35Driver, and good luck with your forthcoming purchase. I'm sure you will enjoy.

As to issues, look in HERE for a summation of most issues with our G's.
Bare in mind that not all G's have these issues, but the lists are a total from 10's of thousands of owners.

I second that Gurgen. I knew better than to buy a first production run but got such a sweet deal on an '03 sedan I just couldn't pass it up. I have been back to the dealership for almost all of the TSB's, plus a brand new set of wheels because of finish problems on the originals. I also have some torque shudder on the 2nd to 3rd gear shift at times that the dealership never can seem to find. The wire in my door panel has just recently started rattling and the one in the headliner they "fixed" is starting up intermittently again.

Recently bought a 2003 (first purchased in July 2002 - one of the first). It's been great. The breaks are an issue, but if they're willing to fix them for free in the next 12 months, I don't really care. Oh, and the seat rocks a little.

Otherwise, it's been just a phenomenal car. Yeah, there are some things I'm not crazy about (no matter what year), but it's still an awesome drive and have no intention of trading it in. And I like the doggy-door trunk.

I figure I'll do a 30K service and get all that stuff done at the same time. BTW - It's also a good idea to reset the ECU when you get it (directions are all over the place).
