MPG Experiment
I have a 2005x with 27,000 miles. I've been following my mileage lately and I've been averaging between 18 - 20mpg and when I hit 330 miles I know I better fill up soon. I drive 50/50 highway and city driving and I ALWAYS run 92 octane ... I would love to try some 94 octane from Sunoco but all of their stations are out of the way for me.
Just an FYI, I noticed that in the Maxima I used to have, the best MPG was achieved at 40 - 45 MPH. It seemed to be a great spot for RPM's vs. fuel consumption.

As for Shell V Power, my G35 and old VQ Maxima hated it. Both cars would knock under heavy load and according to my OBDII datalogger, the V-power yanked a ton of timing. I wouldn't recommend running it. There's some additive in there that doesn't jive with the VQ.
Seriously? Dude maybe you should be in the moped riders forum. Most G35 drivers like to race.
Where in Kansas do you live? In live in Shawnee (Kansas City) and get 92 and 93 octane at BP.
My 03 gets around 18-19mpg in 50/50 driving and I'm not exactly easy on the throttle. In the winter with the oxygenated "winter gas" and cold starts, my mpgs are usually in the 17-18mpg range. In the warmer months, it's around 19-20mpg. If I do 100% highway driving, I see anywhere from 25 to 29mpg depending on grade, wind, and speed. My car has gotten as high as 30mpg going from Atlanta to St. Augustine, Fl which is flat and downgradient.
You're kidding yourself if you think you're going to get 21mpg+ in city driving with a 5AT. All the mpg losses occur during stop and go driving, especially with an automatic (ie torque converter slippage, fluid pumps). The only time you'll see 20mpg+ is in either crawling/rolling major traffic (my G would see 24mpg in crawling ATL traffic) or during steady highway driving when the TC is locked.

Just a quick thought, how many of you are running some sort of aftermarket intake (K&N drop in or pop-charger) and who is running completely stock? I got better MPG after I put a Stillen intake on my Maxima. I haven't done anything to my G yet (getting 330 to a tank) but I'm just wondering if an intake helps at all in these cars ... I'd assume that it would help.
Last week I decided to start calculating my mileage. On a tank of 94 octane from Sunoco I got 19 mpg. Now I'm trying a tank of Shell premium (92 octane? I can't remember). I wanted to try the Shell because it contains no ethanol.
Racing should be done on a track. What you did is illegal and stupid.
To get the best MPG you should accelerate rapidly to speed and then keep the rpm's as low and constant as possible. I know this seems fundamentally wrong, but it is true. Road and track actually did a small rant about a few months back. Accelerating really slowly kills MPG. Im not saying floor it, but definitely dont granny it either.
Your joking right? you've never had the urge to floor your car? ..you know what.. never mind.. obviously all of us should be going the speed limit because the government officials who set these limits obviously based it off our g35's.. and we should never rev over 3000rpm.. cause that would just be ignorant and irresponsible of us.. I take it your one of the drivers who keeps your hands at 10 - 2 oclock at all times? Cause otherwise that wouldn't be the proper driving technique..
