Very reliable, all I've done is the normal fluids, filters, brake pads etc. Nothing save for an airbag sensor and a strut fixed under warranty, has gone bad. I love the style, the handling, the pep and I'm lucky that I have no rattle issues.

I've only had my 2005 x for about 3½ months, but one of the main reasons I bought it was its reliability (that, and how it drives!). Hondas and Toyotas are basically bombproof, but are close to zero fun when you actually drive one. Acuras are nicer, and while they do have similar HP/TQ ratings, they're FWD, and what fun is that? Nissan/Infiniti puts an emphasis on performance, and all the important stuff is very well built. It's the little things breaking that make it a notch below Honda and Toyota for reliability. But it's still much better than anything from Germany or the U.S.

And to the poster who said a G35x is bad in the snow, my guess is you might not know how to drive in the snow, or you don't have proper tires for the conditions. It's been snowing here since the 1st of December, and my car has been awesome. We got almost a foot last Sunday, and Monday morning I had no problems driving several miles on unplowed roads.

If you want bombproof, then you know what to get. If you want nearly bombproof with years of driving fun, then get an Infiniti.

Hmmmmm.... Snow switch----on.... Crappy tires-----on..... slam on gas----on.... lurch forward and spin til computers take control of human stupidity----on! My Gx worked excellent with absolute s*** tires in a sudden snowstorm and constant stupidity.

Thanks for all the great feedback, I figured this would be a biased forum but believe me, if someone went into a Catera forum and asked if they should buy one everyone would be screaming "For Godsake Noooo!"

I think this seals it, im getting a G. I was also considering a 05 or 06 300C, which seems like a solid vehicle for Chrysler but when i test drove the G it blew the Chrysler away of course.

the infiniti has been great to me so far (2005x), but keep in mind that this car was built for performance first, luxury second. And as with most performance cars, there will be maintainence issues, but not so much with cars that were built for luxury first, and performance second.

also, I've heard people refer to infiniti's as the "poor man's BMW"

I used to drive a couple of beamers, and they were awesome, way ahead of their time.

the only reason why I choose the infiniti is b/c was not as costly as a BMW, and roomier. but I've been very satisfied with my purchase, and I would get another again.

While this is an Infiniti forum I think if the car were a POS you would hear about it. You gave a great example about the Catera forums.

You will always have the 10% thats going to complain, and you can throw out the high and low rating, just go with the bulk and it seems a majority like the G...I know I do.

You can also check reliability and ratings from owners on Edmunds.com or carpoint.com

I only buy Nissan products (2000 maxima with 205,000 miles, sold - 2000 Xterra with 137,000 miles, still running strong - 2003 350Z 70,000 miles - sold for the G) and decided this time around I'd step up to the big leagues with Infiniti ... I will most likely replace the Xterra with an Infiniti product in the future. As with every car, there are things you like and things you don't. Once you get over that and get down to the core of things you'll realize that these are awesome cars that are still fun to drive ... and look pretty sweet too.

I think that would be a great step up for you. It makes me sad how so many domestic offerings have gone down in workmanship and quality these days.

The Catera was definitely a low point for Cadillac, aside from the Cimarron
The new CTS is pretty nice though. One of my friends has a new CTS with the DI engine, which is nice to drive. But I digress.

If you're interested in performance and sharp handling with a touch of luxury, go with a G. As the other posts have stated, the interior isn't as nice as German cars or even newer American cars, but reliability is excellent. Consumer Reports gave the 03-06 G their highest reliability rating, which is what convinced me to forget about German cars. Take care of the G and it will take care of you.

I owned a 1998 Catera and a 1997 Nissan Altima. I loved the Catera, but then before I reached 80 kmiles it started going in and out of the shop. Thank goodness I had the Altima. So I drove the Altima which has 250k miles on it now for almost 3yrs and then in Aug. of 2008 I bought a 2006 G35X and I love it. I have always wanted a G. I bought it with about 26k miles on it. I have put about 20k on it already because I drive about 500 miles a week for work alone, all highway miles. It's such a reliable car, all I've done so far is the scheduled maintenance like the oil change and filters.

On getting a G!!!
I have driven several 07 and 08 sedans and an 09 G sedan.
And they are superior in interior, but I prefer to drive my 05 sedan for the driving experience!!
Of course, I love my 04G35C too!
