Should I get a G?
Should I get a G?
Ok, so 3 years ago I made a really bad decision and bought a used 01 Cadillac Catera Sport with 20k miles on it. Loved the car at first but then everything went wrong, now it feels like im in the shop spending $600-1000 every 4 months for some kind of repair. It only has 60k on it now.
Anyways, Ive always wanted a G35x and have the scratch to get a low mileage 2006 with 20-40k miles. Ive heard mostly good things about reliablility but figure this is the best place to get the full story. Are the 2006's pretty reliable or am I going to be in and out of the shop often?
Thanks

great cars with great realiability. I never had any major problems with my 03. Just normal maintainance and few things here and there, but nothing major. You'll be more than happy.
If you keep up the car with normal inspections and clean oil they seem to do well I have 03 with 80k and I drive the **** out of it and its still running strong
! Parts are pricey from the stealership for these cars though.

Get one you'll love it......the 06's are a great car I love mine. I actually prefer the 05-06 body style, they're not so chunky and bulbous as the 07+, plus Infiniti service has also been the best I've ever had. They look at any detail you ask them and do not hesitate at all if it is warranty work. At least thats how mine treats me..........
Have an 06 Sedan with 20k miles. The car is tracked occassionally. No problems to speak of, minor issues were taken care of by the dealership. This car has been more fun and less of hassle than any other new car I've had. 06 was the last year for the 1st gen so they got most of the bugs out by then. 2 of my friends have had G35s from 03 and 07 and both are happy and haven't had any problems.
Gas mileage is a bit low, but that's to be expected for the performance you get.
What other cars are you considering?

Go test drive a G, your mind will be made.

A G35x will act as you treat it mostly. Beat the crap out of it and do not follow scheduled maintenance, she's sometimes needs to go to the spa(stealership) to get her hair done and her nails did. If you are in warranty and at a good dealer, you get to drive a newer g generally and see what you like/dislike. Treat her good and you get close to automotive bliss. To give you an idea; I have one friend who manages the Land Rover dealer next to the Infinfi dealer my other buddy works at. The Rover buddy says he has Infinfi techs coming over looking for work to do since the cars do not have that much trouble and sometimes are starving for work. My buddy at the Infinfi dealer agrees and says that aside from general maintenance and service, unless a CUSTOMER f's the car up they keep a slow steady pace. Not a lot full of F***** up cars.
Infiniti's are good cars but they have lots of little problems and quality issues. Among them, many people experience rattles when driving. I've had 2 G35's and I didn't get rattling on either, my current one is nearing 38k miles and not a single rattle or creak, but it does happen and seems to be luck of the draw. Also the leather can hardly be defined as leather, the liners and various other cabin materials feel cheap and unbefitting of a luxury car, the window motors are prone to breaking, etc.
I've also had miscellaneous engine issues like a couple months ago a camshaft position sensor broke and the car died on me in the middle of the highway at 70mph. Scary and could've been much worse if I had not been on an empty highway.
However I do love how the car looks and how it drives. Very peppy when I want it to be, and still one of the most beautiful cars on the road today. I turn back to admire my car each time I park it, and that's something that's made me stick with it all this time. The engine and transmission won't catastrophically break on you, but as far as refinement and overall build quality, it just isn't there.
So, I'm in a weird position. Would I recommend a pre-07 Infiniti to anyone else? Probably not. Do I love my car? Absolutely.

There can be an issue with the valve cover (plastic) cracking and oil leaking into the spark plug area. If the car has low miles you can get it fixed under warranty, but if it has high miles it could be an expensive fix. Other than that there are few problems.
So... You come into a G35 forum and ask if you should buy one? Well of course we are going to be biased
J/K I think that as with any car you should test drive one and make sure that is the car you want to pursue. I would only suggest that you do a little more research on the X before you buy one. They are great don't get me wrong, but I originally wanted to buy a X and then decided to get a RWD instead. My main reasons were better MPG, can run staggered wheels, easier suspension and drive train mods.

At the end of the day, I think G35s are the best bang for the buck, particularly if you're performance-minded. I test drove the 325, A4, and CTS before getting my G...the G beat the pants off all of them for thousands less.
i have 06 sedan and i love my g. However, there are little minute things you will encounter with the g. For example, rattles, subpar leather seats, average bose system, and low mpg. But overall, you won't be disappointed with the g.
