AWD Indicator

Just picked up my G35x last week and I was looking through the manual. It does not seem like there is any indicator light that comes on when the AWD system is working. I have never owned an AWD car and just assumed that when it switched out of 100% RWD mode some sort of dash light would go on.

I was out in a heavy downpour and testing the handling out and all I saw was the "SLIP" light go on when the VDC kicked in.

I live in the Philadelphia area and won't see any snow until next winter I'm interested in how well the G35x runs in the snow. Has anyone out there drove a G35x in snow, did you feel a real difference?

Thanks

Re: AWD Indicator

The AWD indicator comes on when your AWD is not working properly. You'll love your X in the snow. I really like the way the car handles. Do a search and you can read how we felt during last winter.

Re: AWD Indicator

The only complaint I have with the AWD botton on the console for the snow traction is the lacking of a dash indicator saying it is on. One can accidentally switch on without knowing it, especially the shifter is block the view of the botton when you are driving. The owner's manual stated that it should not be switched on in normal driving.

Re: AWD Indicator

I dropped my x off for it's first service and the rattle TSB a couple weeks ago and they gave me a RWD loaner over night.

Pulling out of the lot in a light rain I felt the tires give a little and saw the SLIP light on. SLIP light came on twice more just on the 5 mile drive from the lot to work.

The AWD is always watching your back, but the light doesn't come on.

Like the ad says, 25% to the front wheels just pulingl away from a stop, then it adjusts constantly whenever you need it.

Re: AWD Indicator

Thanks for the replies. I am coming off of a pure RWD car, so I'm sure I'll enjoy the difference in the winter!

One more question, if I turn of VDC does that affect the overall handling performance? From what I understand it's just an added level of stability on top of the AWD. I ask this because the dealer indicated that when VDC is on it takes away some Torque from the engine. If that is so, I'd like to keep it off in nice weather.
