Tire Wear

I recently had the Bridgestone Turanzas (215/55/17) replaced with Falken ZIEX-512s (225/55/17) and have noticed a problem with the tire wear on the front passenger tire only. It appears that that tire is getting some unexpected wear (approx. 2 inches) on the outer sidewall. The tire pressure isn't the culprit. I don't recall this happening to the previous tire. Any ideas?

BTW, I have an appointment with Infiniti service tomorrow to look into the matter since they were the ones that replaced them.

Re: Tire Wear

Sure every tire is different and every tire will react differently with different camber, caster, and toe. Directional tires are the worst for showing up design weaknesses.

When you redesign a suspension by changing tire types and brands..[sidewall spring stiffness one factor]........you sometimes get educated fast.

9 times out of 10 ultra premium Michelins work the best and have the fewest bad traits.

Re: Tire Wear

It most likely a "toe-in" issue that caused the wear on the outside. A excessive "toe-out" would wear more on the inside tires. An alignment is needed. From my experience, most dealers regardless of makes, are not that good in alignment. But since they replaced the tires, then you have no choice.

Re: Tire Wear

Here's the diagnosis from my service tech:

"Found tire size may be a problem but leaning more to defect in tire. No others are rubbing against side wall."

Air was added to the tire and the side wall was cleaned and was told to monitor it over the next few days. If the problem returns then it's probably a defective tire, which I'll resolve with the shop where purchased.
