What to do first?

Hey there! New on the board and lovin the site!

Anyways, just got my white G35 sedan 6 M/T a few days ago. LOVE IT!! Tinting her this week.

So, what should my first modification be (cost effective)? Grounding kit? I should add, it seems every car in my town is a modified Honda./Acura of some kind..when I drive down the road they swarming all around me like flies on sh*t if ya know what I mean! lol

Forgive me I am a complete "newbie" to the G35 world..so excuse the lingo..I will get better..honest! lol

Re: What to do first?

Welcome to the forum! Great colour choice BTW!

Opinions on mods are as varied as the people and personalities on the forum. Many do purely dress-up mods, others go for performance right away. My first mod was to extend the dead-pedal to make it more useful and to swap the bulbs for something that was a bit brighter and a better colour match for the HIDs. Best to do some reading and research, and decide on your priorities. The FAQs section is always a good read for newbies.

Generally a pretty helpful bunch here so feel free to ask questions.
Enjoy your new ride.

Re: What to do first?

Recommend a "clearbra" right away - the paint is weak on these cars (as on every car in this EPA regulated world) and you'll have rock chips before you know it (I got my first chip with less than 200 miles - installed clear bra within 1 week - no problems in 6,000 miles since), and you'll regret it if you don't take care of it right away.

Tint is an obvious mod you're doing - so are you into the looks/protection first, or do you focus on performance mods?(intakes, exhaust, "Z" suspension, plenum, mechanical or clutch limited-slip differential, sway bars, Brembo brakes, etc. etc.). Then there are stereo and navi/DVD upgrades, appearance upgrades for the interior (woodgrain, etc.), and more. It's your call, but don't lsiten to advertiser claims, research this site, and you'll begin to understand what works, what doesn't, and what is still in debate, without spending your $ too soon. No need to re-invent the wheel, eh?

Welcome to our world - just keep the shiny side up and make us proud - we already respect your fine judgment in cars - Happy Motoring!

Re: What to do first?

Thanks for the response!

For appearance I think chrome rims and tint are tops on my priority list. However I would like to do some minor performance modifications also. Do you have any recommendations what would be the best "bang for the buck"?

I LOVE the colour! I have to admit I was steering towards black..but I just can't keep black as clean as I would like where I live. The white (pearl) is pretty hot! Once I put the platnium tint (same tint as a Lexus SUV but darker) it should look awesome. Rims will just complete the look!

Thanks again for your reply!

Re: What to do first?

Intake - Either Stillen or Pop Charger and a Z tube, or Z tube and drop in K&N filter. (~$75-250)

Suspension - 350z (~$100-250) installed. Better overall handling and lowers the car about an inch. You may be able resell the sport suspension as well.

If you are into rims and performance, just remember that chrome/large wheels are heavy. This is especially true on some wide 19"s or 20"s. I think a member named Serb has 22' wheels which must slow him down a lot!

Nice car and have fun with the mods!

Re: What to do first?

G35girl..thanks for that link! AWESOME looking car! No I don't have that kit (just got my car last week)..where could I get that in Toronto Canada?

Rims I was thinking of 18" or 19" max chrome 5 spoke, didn't want to go too big though.

As far as the mods, I just have to get all the parts and I have my own mechanic that would install for me. He installed a new SI engine in my old civic for $200.00 plus the engine cost which he gave me at his cost..can't beat that! lol

Does anyone know where the best place is to buy all these parts in Toronto? Up where I live it seems everything is sooooo overpriced and going into the city would be my best bet.

Thanks again for all your help...you guys ROCK!

taisha... i'm not sure where you can get it in canada. but you should PM "gsedanman" or "gordgee"- they are canucks and pretty knowledgable about these things. and i believe the nismo body kit is on sale from grubbs infiniti in texas (not sure of the website address, sorry). i've heard that the nismo kits may be discounted greatly once the 2005 Gs come out as those cars are rumored to come standard with it.

illg35... my thoughts exactly! love those nismo'ed white Gs (and silver, too ). the light colors really bring out the beauty of the kit even more.
