I think late model year 04.5 and 05/06 x's went to the puck-less flavor of the "HR-like" Y-pipe. I say this only because I've read posts on here where some 04 x owners have gotten under their cars to find out they had what they thought were HR pipes... but without the pucks.

Its hard to say without seeing it in person but it probably has bolts holding it in place.

Doesn't that mean that you can put the XYZ under the XFER box? Or does it not fit?

Take a look at the pic on post# 330 by coup de grace, he has an 04x and also has the XYZ installed, apparently for several months now (quote from earlier post on previous page)... he has an early model year 04, like mine and that's why I made the comment about my OEM y-pipe fitting the same way his XYZ fits.. directly under the XFER case w/o issues. Not sure what changes were made with the XFER case in later model x's that caused obvious fitment problems.. but on those models.. the XYZ DEFINITELY did not clear the XFER case!!

04x install:

06x install:

It is held in by 2 bolts to the transfer case.

Oh ok, you think its safe to remove, i mean it is there for a reason but im wondering if the xyz pipe will fit without it. That seems to be the most visible thing in the way. I cant really tell if the xyz pipe will fit without it hitting the transfer case itself. Its hard to tell just by looking at pics as for they all are at different angles and we have different years.

I looked under mine today, and it looks like I'm in the same boat as him. Anyone know how vital that vibration damper is and if it can be removed? It looks like Coup de grace already removed it, because my xfer case looks identical to his other than the y pipe and it looks like he removed it.

I had my transfer case replaced about 25k miles ago. I'm assuming that's probably why mine isn't there.

25k miles later, car is running fine. I would assume it's safe to remove.
