Backseat removed; parts question

I recently removed and reinstalled my sedan's backseat so I could move the parcel shelf for a tint job. When I reinstalled the backseat, I was left with the part in the photo. It is a spongy piece; it may have something to do with the rear armrest area. Does anybody know what this is/where it belongs?

i really have no idea, maybe from your tool kit?

But the background looks a lot like sticky rice.

It's not from the tool kit. Could it be from the underside of the parcel shelf? Anyone have a parts diagram of that area?

Toss it. Given its size and the fact that it would completely lack in durability makes me think it must have been a temporary spacer of some sort that was meant to be removed before the car was delivered.

That's just my opinion, I take no responsibility for any damage my opinion may cause.

I would guess it's just a small cushioning piece for the parcel shelf, and if you hear a rattle, then you know where it went. Other than that... *shrug*

I just hate not having something back were it is supposed to go. I know, let it go....let it go.....

P.S. No rattles from the parcel shelf........so far.

follow up

after removing the backseat, is there an easy way to remove the panel that leads to the trunk? I am trying to fashion up a way to make the rear seats fold down to fit a snowboard but I don't really want to cut any wholes in my week old baby =) - any suggestions?
