Future G35X Owner

A few months ago I began a search project to replace my '97 Maxima. First I thought I wanted a 350Z but a two seater RWD just wasn't practical for my circumstances. Then I found that the G35 looked like the Z with a back seat. But there was still the issue of RWD. I commute 85 miles a day in CT. Winter storms would be brutal. So I checked out the X model. When I found out that the AWD was computer controled and was essentially RWD when the roads are good I knew I found the car for me.

Then I found this site. The info here is amazing. You guys have helped me zero in on the 2006 model. Think best bang for the buck. I'm going to be looking for a black G35X in the next few months because California has banned the future sales of new black cars to fight global warming. The car companies just might stop all black cars to make it easy for themselves.

So, is there anything in particular that I sould look for when I shop?

Search button. This question comes up too often.

I am amazed Arnold has let the black car law pass. How the hell his the Terminator going to roll in white?

I guess the same as all cars when you're looking used. Make sure it's accident free, service records are nice to have. There are few problems with the car so just make sure you take it for a good ride and if anything feels weird then maybe it's not a good purchase.

What are you looking to spend on the car?

Most of the '06 G35X's are in the $17-20K range in the north east area. I understand that the X model was targeted for my neck of the woods. I have done the search for potential problems. I had more in mind as to which features Packages are most desirable. I looked at the "packages thread" but couldn't figure out what is available for the '06 X model.

As far as Cali. is concerned ; "Some animals are more equal than other animals"- George Orwell. The politians will still have black limos and escalades.

Oh so Arnold is safe.

As far as packages go, all interior packages are available for the Xs. Just the sport and suspension packages are excluded I think?

http://www.infinitihelp.com/ has some good info on what was available. Definitely get the Premium Package, it pretty much has everything for the X. Actually, it would be difficult to find an '06 that didn't have it. Navigation and Wood Trim were separate options. Try to find one with 18" wheels. They weren't an OEM option for the X, but you may find one that has them anyway.

Thanks guys. You're making me want to scratch that itch for the"GX". I have to take care of a few money matters before I can get the car. I don't have rich parents like some of th kids on this board. I'm jelous of those 18 year olds that have their own G35.

hey thats me! lol not the rich parents part but the owning their g at 18, i used to have a prelude but the winter and a dumbass old lady ruined my dreams of a t3/t4 h22 type s (which i had saved up 10gs for since i had been working since 14) your gonna love the x man just make sure you get some decent snow tires because the stock all-seasons are terrible. also make sure they let you mash on it to make sure you can feel and hear the awd kicking in, my cousin works at the infiniti dealership i got my car from and says he's amazed at how many test drives he goes on where the customer doesnt even check to make sure the awd system is working

Now that's the kind of advice I'm loking for. I have no experiance with the AWD. Putting snows on is my SOP. I'll put the snows on the stock rims and get some sticky meats and rims form tire rack.
Speaking of tire rack, they offer rims that are the same size as stock,17x7.5, but say that the rims are for 235/45/17 tires. They must look good on a G.

Stock wheels are 17x7, not 17x7.5. And 235/50-17 is the more correct "Plus 0" size. There are really only 4 sizes that will fit on the stock 17's for an X.

215/55-17 = 26.3" = Stock
225/50-17 = 25.9" = 3.3% smaller than stock
225/55-17 = 26.7" = 3.3% bigger than stock
235/50-17 = 26.3" = Matches stock, perfect Plus 0

235/45-17 = 25.4" = 7.3% smaller than stock = Mismatch!

The 235/45-17's will cause problems with the VDC and odo/speedo. They're just too small.

I can't feel or hear my AWD "kicking in" at all. It's pretty fluid to me with no jolt or bang or anything. On a dry road, i can't tell a difference

I'm pretty sure it works fine as the car is awesome in the snow, but if i were to go test drive my own car right now I couldn't do anything that would make it kick in so to speak.
