the grunting noise is becoming more frequent in my 05 g35x. i have 86k so there is no warranty anymore. when i pull out of the driveway which has a small lip and when i go over speed bumps my front area makes a loud grunting noise!! does anybody know wut this is, how much it is, and what it does in the car??? thanks.
I would have the service tech check the front compression and upper control arm bushings. At around 90k miles I had to have the front bushings replaced. I had my car from 2002-2007 and put 138K miles on it. I have had all of the G35 problems.
Infiniti must have gotten tired of paying for all the compression rods because now the TSB says not to replace the entire piece, just the bushing... previously they just replaced the whole thing.
The lower control arm (transverse link) bushing is also common wear item (causing similar sound)...

are they about $40 each for the bushings? I need to replace both my lower control arm bushings. Where can I check a diagram that shows the compression rods and Lower control arms?...I just want to make sure I have them right.

if you are able to get a hold of the bushing you will need to press the old one out and press the new one in. we were sent a shop tool from infiniti designed specifically for this process. not sure how the job would be without it, but i'm sure you could find something suitable for pressing.
you will also need a fork to separate and swap the ball joint cone.

i forgot to add: doing this yourself in most cases is a ball buster.
once the 19mm nut is removed, grab the biggest pry bar you can find and use the pinch weld on the body as a fulcrum, and force the rod downward.
if that doesnt work, I usually grab the torch, heat the bushing until it melts away. the rod will drop out, but you are then left with what you couldn't manage to free with the pry bar.
i've seen two ways of removal:
there is usually a good amount of rubber meat that can be grabbed with a very large set of vice grips. latch on to that sucker (which will still be smoking hot) and force it to twist. if you can do this you will break it free enough to where you can coax it to slip down off.
method two - which WARNING: just witnessed a fellow tech completely FUBAR and the vehicle now needs a new frame rail put in. crazy stuff. anyways take a cut off wheel and cut into the smoking rubber mess. the idea is to just cut the sleeve enough to where you can either break it with an air hammer, or eventually weaken enough to where it falls apart.
yeah... do not try this at home...

cool. I suspect some dealers would rather just swap the entire rod than push in the bushing... but I also suspect they are eating some of the cost because the TSB (from Infiniti - manufacturer, not the dealer) states they are not to replace the rod, just the bushing... which means the dealer isn’t going to be reimbursed for that rod as being defective. If they replaced your entire rod that’s great (they used to do that as standard).
