Funny noise - Possible tranny/diff problem on my 05 5AT - Anyone else have this?

I've noticed within the last couple of days that whenever I accelerate I hear a clicking/ticking/creaking coming from the rear of the car. This happens from a standstill as well as when in motion if I let off the gas and then resume.

It is only under the first couple seconds that I hear it....can't hear it from inside the car, only when I have the windows down. I just put on my summer wheels / tires a few weeks ago and everything is torqued properly (checked after I heard it).

Seems like tranny or diff to me, but I could be wrong. Suspension mods are listed in my sig.

Also, I did feel a hard / clunky shift from 4-5 yesterday on the highway when in manual mode. This was after I had already started hearing the noise. Tranny is a 5AT if that helps.

Any ideas?

I had something similiar on my 06 Sedan. I brought it to the dealership and they fixed it under warranty. If you'd like to DIY I know there is write-up some where around here. I believe it involves removing the rear wheels, and greasing the axles. also someone has a video of this sound on their coupe, you can search to see if it is the same noise.

EDIT: Didn't see the part about the tranny. I had no transmission problems, just the clicking from the rear end.

my guess is your rear axles are clicking.. it seems to be a common problem that can be fixed under warranty.

Cool, appreciate the quick response guys. I'll add that to my list of things for the dealer to look at before my warranty is up.

Yep, that's it! Sounds like the Axle TSB issue then. Good to know, hopefully they will fix it with no hassle.

Yep that's the axle click TSB.

If you are still under warranty they fill fix it for free. If not, you'll have to pay. I did mine myself because I don't trust those guys to touch my car these days.
